Hawkeye I have 3 of their older technology 12c packs and have over 100 cycles on them. They don't hold balance too well but I consider them good value for money given my experience.
Almost all reports I have seen of these new 20c packs have been positive. You don't get the same local backup (assuming you are in the US) as for premium brands but then at $35/pack you cannot expect it.
If you are into aggressive 3D then I would say stick with the premium packs (FlightPower, Hyperion, Polyquest, ThunderPower) or perhaps try the very interesting new technology AirThunder packs (see here: http://helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=36021 ). If you are just learning, or into sport or mild 3D flying then I think they are worth a try.
Do a search here on helifreak for opinions on Hextroniks or read this large thread about them at RCG: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=661662

I've been running them for 9 months now.
I charge with a balancer every time and they keep going. Some have had problems but I haven't. I have even used 4 x 2200 3S packs to make a 6S2P pack for my 600. It has lated way longer than the Align 4400 6S2P pack... but anything would...

I've been flying them since Feb07 since I started. Had some minor issues with the first 2 packs I got but the newer 4 packs have been fine.

...soldering the tabs...
Do you mean the tabs on the cells themselves ? Are you repairing a pack, creating a new pack from old cells or something else ? (Just curious).

all the guys using the hextronik batteries, what is the maximum rate you use the charge the batteries, can you go above 1C, lets say 2C??

I charge mine full auto with my Cellpro 4s which maxes out at 3A (older version). Once they're broken in I'd have no problem charging at 3C if I had a hotter charger.

Yes the tabs on the cells
I am trying to make one good pack out of two old packs
I think the tabs are aluminium

I think you have to use aluminum solder flux on the tabs, do a search on rcgroups.com you should find some hints. For example:
Here is a tutorial on making a pack : http://home.comcast.net/~truerc/tut...k_assembley.htm
That being said, they are hard to work with, if you have patience and the correct supplies at hand. A good 40 watt soldering iron, some balancer taps with appropiate sized taps and some aluminum flux. If the lipo tabs already have the nickel soldered on, then you won't need the flux, but if you ever have to repair a broken tab on a pack, it makes life so much easier when trying to solder the repair
I found these in a few seconds, might be helpful:

is the balancing connector compatible with TP? Align? or what?

The balancing connector is the same as the Align. I have 2 of these batteries, and 2 Align 2100 22c batteries. The Align batteries have both puffed after less than 10 cycles, using a 420lf motor! The Hextronic ones are both doing fine, and are barely warm after use. I have ordered 2 more.
