I am considering buying the 600 nitro heli. But I am a little confused on a few things. As you will notice I have never owned a nitro heli. before, But I have dealt with nitro motors for years in my r/c cars so that shouldnt be much of an issue, I have flown electrics for a while now so I have a grasp on general flying.

My questions are:

1. Is it absolutly a must to have a govenor installed, even if you are only doing basic flying? No hard 3d flying for me yet. Just basic foward flight for now. I have been considering the futaba gv1 govenor if I must have one, any thoughts on this?

2. I am currently using a futaba 7chp radio for my trex450 and rex600 electric helis. If I install a gov. does that mean I will need to step up to the futaba 9chp radio to use it. I have read a little about the gv1 and as far as I can understand I can use it on throttle channel only and maintain 6 to 7 channel operation, Is this correct? will the 7chp be fine for the 600n or should I just get the 9chp?

3. the hatori pipe is recommended pipe for the 600 nitro, correct?

Servos will be futaba 9451's for cyclic control, and for now a 401/9254 on the tail, Since I already own them. Possibly a 611 gyro later down the road if my skills increase enough. :)

Thanks for any help in advance!!

Question 1.

It is not absolutely necessary to have a gov. but then your throttle curves have to made correct to get the right head speed throughout the collective range + and -. With a gov (Depending on which gov you buy) you can set the head speed and it will remain constant throughout the collective range automatically without having to adjust your throttle curves. Gov just makes it a lot easier.

Question 2.

You can use your 7chp for the 600n. The servo that usually would go in the throttle channel now goes to the Gov and then the gov connects to the throttle channel on your RX. Really you will only need 6 channels to run the 600n just like your 600E.

Question 3.

The hatori pipe is a really nice muffler and can be used but depending on the engine you can run other mufflers. Compatiblity is what you are looking for, what muffler can fit on the engine you are running. Most all 50 size mufflers can fit a 50 size engine. The differences will be in performance.

All the electronics you have listed will work fine in the 600n as well. Just remember 1 more servo is required to run a nitro over an Electric for the Throttle.

the hatori pipe is very nice, but why pay 130.00 when you can pay 70 for a curtis MP?

im going with the MP when i get mine.

The Curtis pipes have better performance on this heli from my experience. You will also need to use the 7th channel if you are using a governor to set your head speeds.

Also go with the Multigov by aerospire. Its cheaper at $110, and its has more features (gov or overspeed), supports digital servos, you don't need a tach, programming is done on a removable lcd screen only a circuit board is left on your heli, has more advance settings if you feel the need to tweak, and again its cheaper!

Also go with the muscle pipe. The new MP5 pipe replaces the older MP2 pipe, and its quiter, more power, lighter, and still the same price.

I'm looking to purchase the 600 as my first nitro heli also. Interesting the word governer came up. Does anyone have some links with good information on how these governers work? I'm glad you asked this question Carr.
