Wasn't sure if I should put this post here or in the "other radio brands" forum, but thought since it was in a Raptor, I'd try here.

While waiting to fix my cat-chewed antenna, I've been working on getting the throttle linkage/throttle jockey set up and have some "concerns" regarding setup of the linkage AND the TJ.

On the Raptor Technique page, I'm reading the Throttle setup page and it says for my 9C to set the throttle linkage so I get full throw with ATVs to 80/80. On the Model Avionics website, the 9C Setup says to set up the ATV as close to 100/100 as possible. I've currently got the 80/80 setup working which appears to get the engine to full throttle a bit ahead of the application of full collective. Should I leave this how it is or set it per the MA instructions?

What I'd like to end up with is using switch H for THR-CUT and switch G for THR-HOLD and use the conditions to set governor speeds like so:

NORM - Ungoverned
IDL1 - "Medium headspeed"
IDL2 - "Fast headspeed"
(Dunno what numbers to shoot for, but I'll figure them out as I get used to flying this thing)

I'm pretty sure I've got the basics figured out, but am a bit confused as to the "right" way to get this TJ setup and calibrated properly.

Maybe I should convert this thing to electric as setting those things up is cake. :)

Thx!

You might want to use the 80/80 if you have a slow throttle servo, all of mine are set for 100/100. I would use the MA instructions. and then tweak from there if you have some special needs develop.

Looks like I'll rework the mechanicals to get 100/100 and follow the MA instructions..

Thx!

OK, I finally found some time to get back to this thing. I think I've got it all figured out and set up properly and it appears as if things are operating as they should...

Anything I should watch out for on the initial startup? I'm going to leave the governor disabled for the 1st few tanks while I try to get a handle on the throttle curves - anything that might get "interesting" when I flip the governor on??

Yes, that is when the fun begins

They give you a formula to estimate head speed based on ATV/endpoint settings.
Set your ATV a little on the low side to avoid a big surprise.
I would spool up at zero pitch and while on the ground have your helper with the tach there.
Set the tach for the headspeed that you want and have the TX in the screen to adjust the ATV of the gov channel. It is simple to then adjust the TX ATV to get your desired head speed. As long as it is not a windy day I have done this with no helper a few times.

I've got "help" at the field to tach the thing... Hopefully it'll start. :)

The throttle jockey does prefer the throttle atv settings as close to 100/100 as possible
The Aux channel needs to be set to 90 or 95 - can't remember - it's in the manual

Make sure you do the calibration exercise correctly,
you need to calibrate both the throttle channel and the aux channel,
you need to drop your throttle trim to the bottom
Set the govenor function to 0/100
Do the calibration
Reset the govenor function to 50 75 78

Normal mode throttle curve, 0, 25, 35, 45, 100
Idle1 maybe 100 80 65 80 100
Idle2 maybe 100 90 75 90 100

The TJ uses your throttle curve in it's maths
You need the curves higher than the power requirements of the rotor

You do not need a fast servo on the throttle
With a idle up throttle curve you're not likely to be using
more than 1/2 the servo throw - so that's half the response time
I use S9001 which are slow, worse than 0.2 sec,
but at half throw that's 0.1 sec which works just fine

Glad I popped in here. Was just about to dive into the bird and make sure everything was set for the maiden tomorrow..

I've got a highly experienced pair of nitro guys coming out to help me get 'er dialed in so hopefully, by the end of the session, she'll be ready to rock.
