Is there an upgrade for a torque tube tail for the Razor?

Alvin,

No TT's for the Razor yet. Lucky for me since I said 6 months ago in this forum that I would not buy a Razor without one (and a carbon tail boom as well) and right now, lol, I cannot afford one anyway. Although, the current $600 MA sale price is VERY tempting!

All Razor owners I've talked to are happy with the belt, and they fly very well, so I don't think that this is a high priority for MA right now. Their current priority seems to be getting the Razor nitro and Ion-x2 out the door. Having said this, I'm sure the majority of Razor owners (esp 90 sized X-cell flyers) would buy one, just for the bling factor alone.

I've run a TT on my 10s Trex600 for over 4 months now and I have to be honest and say that I really do not notice any significant improvement in flying with it versus the belt drive.

However, I probably would not go back to the belt drive because of the low maintenance aspects of the TT. No belt tension to check all the time and much easier to work on.

Also, it's been very bullet-proof. Minor dingles have only stripped the small vertical gear (next to the main gear) which is very similar to my Ion-x, I've only managed to strip a few main bevel gears so far.

Heh, and there's the all important bling factor as well!

Anyway, it's probably no big deal that there is not a TT for the Razor, but I'm holding my ground, for now, and trying, trying, trying not to buy one till there is!

Cheers,
Tom C

Thanks Tom for you input. I love the way my Razor fly but I thought that if it was available I would love to try it.

Rumor is that some of the MA test pilots are already using a factory made T.T. conversion kit. From what I hear it is a fairly extensive conversion. I want one.

I heard extensive, and expensive (~$250-300). Probably will not be released.

I watched bobby watts fly his razor nitro only about 6 weeks ago and it was running the belt drive. Tom is correct when he says that MA's priorities right now are the razor nitro and the ionx2.

Besides, teh razor goes fine with the belt. Why change what already works.

I like the Razor E a lot dont get me wrong, but the tail belt system is far from perfect. I started with my tail belt at the third hole from the rear and slowly tested and ended up at the fifth hole from the rear and the tail belt will still skip sometimes with hard right piros and hard collective combined or going from fast left piros then stopping and going to fast right piros. It is very similar to the problems with the Lepton tail system. It seems like when the belt is a direct drive on the main shaft there is a skipping problem. This is a perfect example of when a torque tube will perform better.

Is this up to the Miniature Aircraft quality standard?

I am overall happy with the flying characteristics though.

How much drag is normal with the Razor's belt system. Even with the belt tension pretty loose the rotor head spools down noticeably faster due to the drag of the belt. I have other belt driven helis and the belt does not cause this kind of drag. Anyone else seeing this on their Razor.

Yep unfortunately this is the case with the Razor.

can't say I've noticed it on either of my E Razors or the N razor.....

I fly with Peter and he certainly does not have any problem with autos with either his E or N Razor. Peter is the 'auto king' in our local area.

Just my observation, but he does not seem to have as much bottom hang time with his Razors as he gets with his TT Stratus, about the same as his heavier TT Spectra-G's and a little less than he used to get with his old Rappy 50's.

I'm not having any probs with my Razor tail rotor belt, I'm happy with auto performance. Belt tensioner on 3rd hole

i second that. im not sure what the fuss is about on the TT. my e-razors belts dont skip or appear to cause excesive drag. only problem i had in the begining was the belt jumping off the idlers. which has been fixed. im sure the TT has slightly less drag but ill trade that for the duarability and simplicity of the belt system
