I've preordered the Hummingbird 3-D elite and have been doing some research on 120 eccpm set-up. I'd like suggestions as to what Radio would best serve my needs without totally destroying my budget. I presently own a HiTec 6 but seriously doubt it has the capabilities necessary.
Also, will a GWS pg03 gyro be sufficient or will I need to upgrade to one of the newer heading hold gyros?

I'm quickly learning that I'm in way over my head here :arggg: but want to do it "right". Advice? Dave

Hi Dave

I would recommend the Futaba9CH radio, I am biased towards Futaba gear. It's a great radio that will fill many roles. Here is a link to TX only with a 16K campac memory card from Tower... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDXG2**&P=0

Someone else will hopefully chime in to offer you gyro suggestions for your HB. You might wanna look into a Futaba GY240 HH Gyro.

I see you are located in Indy...you can also drive over to Hobby Town USA and pick it up there.

If you need help locally...you can contact Mark Fadely in Indy. He's is one of the top pilots and has plenty of knowledge and experience to help you.

Best of Luck

On a cheaper note. There is the JR 6012. I do agree with pano's. The 9C is a very good transmitter and has alot of features to grow with. But for the budget minded the JR6012 is a good choice also. JR6012 sells for about 269 for standard size equipment, but they do offer it with the smaller servos and receiver for less. Im thinking around 249.

I go with panos. I think that the GY-240 HH would serve you well. I fly the 9c because of the versitility. I fly glow copters on PCM and e-copters on PPM. I also fly foamies, gliders, glow planes, and all with the same futaba 9CH.

I like the JR 8103 for it's ease of programing and use. Everyone will have their favorite brand..... so my suggestion is to buy what the local flyers in your area are using. That is what I did when I got back into the hobby last year, my entire club flys JR, so I got the 8103. Heck I have two of them now, one airplane version and one heli version.

Have fun and enjoy this great hobby !!!

Ok Dave,

Here's what I suggest to new radio buyers.. find a LHS in your area and see if they have both of the radios JR and Futaba pick them up hold them both and see which one fits you best.. both are fairly simply and straight forward on programing turn them on and look at display screens if you have minor vision problems.. mind you if you have large hands you might preffer the JR brand. But the choice is yours. but look and hold each one before your purchase.. Futaba 9c, JR's 6102,8103,or 9303 you can usaully get help here with most any JR or Futaba radio set info.

Happy hunting :glasses2:
Take your time to get what best fits you.. :glasses2:

The 6102 comes with a ratchet on the throttle.there is only one version it does both heli's and planes. In the box there is a bracket to relace the ratchet for the throttle stick.
