The Hurricane 550 is quickly getting to the top of my list for a 500 sized bird to buy. Because I'll never be doing any hard 3D the only place I'd feel the difference between an analog and a digital is in my wallet. So what are some suggestions for analog servos? I'm partial to Hitec but willing to try others if need be.

Futaba s3001's are suppose to be decent. I have to tell you that you will be able to tell a large difference in analog and some quality digital servos like s9252's even for just hovering around and forward flight.

At some point in time I have to cut back on spending a bit. I'm letting this hobby get out of hand. I've spent a kings ransom on my T-Rex's. The Hurricane is going to be a budget bird. One place I can cut back is by not spending $75.00 for each servo. That's just not going to happen. I'll have to get by with some $30.00 analogs. I guess all I need is the size range that will comfortably fit in the frame. I can pick out a servo from there. I'm guessing just a basic standard size will fit?

From what I saw on Finless vids any standard size futaba or hitec fits nicely. Also if you look around you can get futaba s9252's for $65.00 each easily. I got 3 for $60.00 each. Im looking at getting a hurricane also and s9252's are going in mine.

With the budget you're looking at why not consider the DS821's that come with Spektrum DX7's. They're budget digitals, but available very cheaply... in the UK we can get 4 for £50 ($100 at current exchange rate). Work well on 6V as well to go with the BEC provided with the kit.
Can't fault them in my Hurricane or my 63" Yak slimer.

I need some help, I'm getting ready to install the servo wheels & pushrods.
The manual says the pushrod should be 60mm but I measured from the control arm ball to the spot on the wheel where my ball will be (according to the template) & my distance is 80mm.

I've just seen a few posts about them. They may be a possibility. I see a lot of good deals for them. I will definitely keep them in mind. Thanks!

after thinking about it, i think that the pushrod length should be the same as the distance between the servo wheel center & the control arm pivot.

NOPE... wont work that way because the balls on the bellcranks is NOT on the same line as the bell crank pivot point! The balls on the bell crank are offset from the pivot point thus YOU MUST do that same thing on the servo wheels or you will stress the bearings in the servos and also bind the system!
See my videos as I explain this pretty well I think!

finless,
isn't the crank pivot offset the same as the offset on the servo wheel? with the same offset on both ends the lengths would be the same, i think.
i've watched your videos quite a few times & took your suggestions about the raptor links & nuts & bolts on the balls.
thanks for those videos, they have been & will continue to be a big help.

OK. ServoCity is having a big sale right now. I can get the Hitec HS-5625mg digital metal gear servos for $38.49 each. That's a reasonable price. 131 oz/in and .15 speed at 6 volts. It looks like they'd be a good choice on cyclic. Am I right? Apparently Hitec digitals are not so good with the 401 gyro due to a different pulse width. I'll have to find a used Futaba for the tail. They are waaayyy too expensive when new.

Well I hope the 5625's are a good match. I just ordered 3 of them. I didn't want to wait too long and have them run out. Now if someone would have some killer sales on Futaba digitals for the tail I'd be all set.

If those are fill size servos (I didnt go look) then you should be fine with those. .131 is over kill but for the price thats not bad.
As foir the tail... DONT screw around. Go get a 9254 Futaba tail servo that is made to work with the 401.

Bob,
Yeah, the 5625's are full size. The torque is way overkill but couldn't beat the price.
I haven't even ordered the bird yet so I have some time to get the tail servo. I know the 9254 is the way to go but it costs as much as the three 5625's! I have a $20.00 discount from Tower that I'll probably end up using for the servo.
I've been watching your videos on the Hurricane. They've helped me make the decision to get this bird. Now all I have to do is find one without the motor if possible. It looks like the local guy may take a little longer to get them than I want to wait so I'll be getting it online.
