Yeah baby,

Got mine today (11.62 ratio) :D :D :D :D.

My last Fury Extreme will be sacrificed for the required parts.

Gonna finish it with...
- 3x Airtronics '758's (0.06s at 6v) on CCPM w/ G3 Rx or AR9000 (not sure which yet)
- FP 1600 2S2P EvoRx pack w/ 6v duralite reg w/ electronic switch
- gy611
- HV-110
- 690v's + 105v's
- 12S = 2x 6S FP 3700 Evo25's

It looks like it will be a FAST build - finally, the wait is over.

Anyone know what gear ratios are available? I'm intersted to convert my 2-stage Neu setup. Initially I'd like to just get a ~19.2:1 10s ratio and later a 23:1 12s ratio or maybe even a 28.8:1 15s ratio. I see that 18.65:1 is the largest ratio currently offered for the Razor. I've tried to get this info from MA but have not gotten a response yet. Thanks.

Cheers,

42 t , 16t , 100t main gear , 12t pinion , that sould do it

Tony,

Sorry mate, 42/16 x 100/12 = 21.9:1, is too high for the 19.2:1 I'm looking for 10s (~ same as 48t secondary), and too low for 23:1 12s (although I guess this could be governed down ok) and way too low for 28.1 for 15s. I think that the 15s option would be pretty hard to govern down with a PJazz esc but would be pretty inefficient anyway.

I guess it's really going to come down to what gears/pulley's/belts/motor pinoins, MA is going to be able to offer.

The more I think about it (the mind is a dangerous thing!) the more I'm inclined to want to try the Ion-x2 upgrade with my Neu 1521/1.5 at 15s (I'm still thinking of using my large stock of 5s1p 3700 Evo20 packs). This motor is rated at max 60,000 rpm and 3000 watts (lots for my flying abilites). As long as I keep the hs down (~1850-1950) and pitch down to reasonable levels (~+/-10deg), a 15s pack should result in a zero pitch hs of 15x3.7x1050kv = 58,275 rpm, just below the 60k max. I'd probably need to blow a couple of PC fans over it to help keep it from getting too hot!

A 28:1 ratio will give me ~ 15x3.7x1050kv/28 ~ 2080 rpm HS at zero pitch. This should put me in the right ballpark to govern a 1850-1950 hs with 15s.

So what are my options?

I guess my cheapest option is to try to use my current 2-stage setup as much as posssible. If I kept the top 90/15 top gear the same, used a 50t secondary (which I have a few spares), and and a 10t motor pinion (if I can find one, are they 1.0 mod or what?), this would give me an overall ratio of 90/15 x 50/10 = 30:1. The zero pitch hs would only be about 1940, but this is not too bad. A 48t secondary (which seems hard to find) would give ~ 2020 hs which would be better. The potential problem with this setup is that my secondary gears have enough problem handling 23-2500 watts, so 3000 watts would probably strip them clean pretty quick, but I guesss you do not know until you try it!

The next best option would be a ~ 4.7 bottom belt drive, or a ~13/60t belt combo but this would equire a very tight belt tensin and would probalby not work too well imop.

So, what to do? I'm really not too sure, but I think that the 15s neu option has some merit.

Cheers,
Tom C

also look at the 1527 like HC had , but it had some POWER! mod 1 gears , yes ,
here lately I have been thinking of just setting one up to 3D great without all the watts everyone wants to hit , Wattybotts flights , well thats just to much , drive train will suffer to much on these big machines , like my razor , I been wanting at least 6 to 7 min flight times , 6 min of all you can throw at it now on 12s 3800s , put back 2500 ma, thats not bad , Ion geared 12 to 1 , 2 6s 5000 , 10 min flight time sure sounds better than the ripping 4 1/2 min that Bobbys getting ,

You can order whatever pulleys you want from Stock Drive Tom to make up pretty much any gearing you want.

I hope you're right Will, but I have not heard back from MA to say what gear ratios they have for the Ion-x2. Is 'Stock Drive' a company I can get these from? Thanks.

Tony, I'll look at these 1527 motors as well. Thanks for the heads-up and I agree, 4.5 min of B.Watts' set-up is not for me either. Too much power and not enough runtime.

SDP is at https://sdp-si.com/eStore/ but you'll have to know what belt style/pitch they're using.

G'day mates,

I'd be looking at 19.2:1 for 10s and 23:1 for 12s, and 28:1 for 15s. I got an E-mail reply from Tim (Mr MA) today saying that with a 100t main gear they are able to achieve 19.28 and 22.90:1 ratios. He did not say how this was going to work but I guess he would use a 12t pinion up top with the 100t gear and 16/37 pulley set below, for 19.28:1 and 16/44 for a 22.9:1.

This probably would work ok on 10s but 12s would increase the main gear wear (a double 100t main would help a bit). Since the bottom belt ratio is well over 2:1 (2.31-2.75) this would mean that belt tension would need to be pretty tight and would reduce belt and motor bearing life imop.

I guess I'm not convinced that the Neu is going to make a good transition to belts, but I could easily be wrong. I think I'll wait a while to see if anyone else does this successfully first, for a change.

In the meantime, I'm flying the pants off my new 100t/10t Actro 32-3 single stage Ion and it's going great. My old Ion 2-stage Neu is actually going pretty good as well and I am now getting over 50 flights per Secondary gear, a lot better than the 15-20 I was getting initially.

I look forward to anyone who's done an Ion-x2 conversion with a Neu 1521/1.5 to chime in!

Cheers,

Tom C
