The newest edition of Pop Sci has a short article on A123's newest battery concoction , called M1 . Boasts even shorter ( 5 min ) charging times than the current A123 scheme and they produce more power and less heat . These will be seen first in (you guessed it) power tools . The article doesnt go into it much and doesnt mention wieght but it sounds like A123 is pushing the boundaries of what Lithium ion batteries can do ( current A123 batts are a bit on the heavy side ). I cant wait for these to come out and the Electric heli guys get their hands on them and start modding .

I'm confused... A123 Racing cells are called M1 cells. We've discussed them here before, with the general conclusion "they work fine, great head speed, but a bit on the heavy side for some 3D"... Did I miss something?

really ? My understanding was that M1's were new . They use nanophosphate particles in them to improve the ion transfer . They dont suffer from build up of flammable gasses either (like oxygen ) so they are safer .
But if These A123 M1 cells are the same as the ones people are already using to make their own packs then it would mean pop sci is behind on their reporting .
