I have a new Venture 30 I am building and I have read about balancing the fan/clutch with a dial caliper. It doesn't seem like there is any way to do this with the cooling fan setup that comes with the Venture 30 since the fan sits firmly on the crankshaft with no room to move for adjustments.

Am I crazy or is there actually a way to do this?

I have a V30 and have never had a balance isue with the fan/clutch. I have heard that on some high performance heli's you need to do this, but with the v30 I don't think so. Just my thought!

I dont think you really need to balance the clutch and fan, what you should check is the run out with a dial indicater. The least amount of run out the better, this helps keep the vibrations down. Do a search on how to check run out.
Some people have had good luck not checking run out and the heli's fine, other's have not. FWIW

The nice thing about plastic 30s is they can usually be just built and flown. If you dont have a problem with fuel foaming dont worry about it.

I put the fan/clutch on a magnetic prop balancer and make sure its not grossly out of balance. If its got a heavy spot try to put that opposite the piston at top dead center, other wise you can drill some shallow dimples in the bottom of the fan with a wide drill bit, go slowly or you will be drilling the other side to make up for it :)

Awesome. I finally got it put together last night and it looks awesome. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.
