Hey folks,

So I'm finally getting into some 3d and my Alpha 400 on my EXI 450 Pro just doesn't provide as much power as I'd like for tic tocs, etc. Can anyone recommend a good upgrade? I have a Proton 40A ESC from HobbyPartz.com and 25C 2200mAH Turnigy 3S lipos.

Im running the exceed rc helium 3700kv motor and it has plenty of power for sport flying. Im flying with gens ace 55c packs and it has and those made a big difference in the power too.

Looks like a pretty nice motor, and the warehouse is in the USA :). Did yours come with screws? A reviewer indicates it uses 2.5m screws, which may be difficult to find. And is a 40A ESC enough? Either way, they are out of stock :(.

2 choices for you
first you have to change to a better esc
castle ice 50

now motor
scorpion 2221-8 (about the same as a mx3500) better torque so it will do punch outs with the right pinion it turns mine at 3600-3800rmps at the head no problems at all. 3400 is really all you need, really universal motor

cost wise, a toward pro 2415-06t is a 4400kv motor for 15.00 from hk and it screams

I dont think mine came with screws but i dont remember. I had screws that fit it though. I use a 40 amp esc and it just gets a little warm so a 40 amp esc is perfect.

What is wrong with the Proton ESC? I'm using it with the Align 450MX and I have a lot of power with it. The soft start works pretty well for me as well.

Why would he have to get a better esc? I have used that esc and it worked fine!:)

on 3 cell I guess you wouldnt
I fly 4 cell on my 2221-8 and like to act stupid with it which pulls more current

I also like the gov. feature in it

to each his or her own

My Turnigy 3S 2200mAH 25C packs come down a little warm (not hot) with the alpha 400. Is it likely that I'll need to upgrade to higher current packs to take advantage of a better motor and avoid safety issues? I selected these packs because they can supply up to 55A (25C*2.2A = 55A), which provides a 15A margin for the 40A ESC. Perhaps it isn't this simple?

So it looks like HobbyPartz is still OOS on this motor: http://www.hobbypartz.com/86ma78-2220-3700kv.html

I'm considering Turnigy as I don't want to spend a ton of $$. I've heard the Turnigy Typhoon 2215H and 2218H models are good, the latter being a bit more powerful. Does anyone have any comments about these motors?
