View Full Version : A640 with wide lens and adapter seems a little loose

Just got the wide lens and adapter today; there seems to be just a tiny bit of slop between the LA-DC58F lens adapter and camera body, it's not much and I don't think it will be enough to hurt anything but I was curious if anyone else has dealt with this.

It feels similar to a bit of backlash when setting a pinion on a main gear. You can just feel it move back and forth a little. It's probably fine on the ground but I'm thinking a few pieces of carefully placed scotch tape might snug it up enough to keep it from vibrating in the air.

And boy is that thing LOOOOOONG and heavy. But it seems to work great. The poor little logo 10 may get a hernia trying to lift it. It's so long now the gimble won't point straight down without ripping out the wires from the camera; now I get to make a new gimble. And make the legs longer. And, and, and ..... Nothing's ever easy.

Don't worry about that slop. It's normal and vibrations or otherwise won't affect it. I have hundreds of flights on mine on the Logo 10 and it's all good.

You'll want to run 550's with a stretch if you wanna lift the weight of the A640 with that big nasty piece of glass.

I'm running Mikado 580mm blades now and it hauls around the weight with ease.

Thanks DJ. I' did put 550's on it along with the coarser main gear. It flew ok without the big lens but the mount is pretty heavy. Too heavy, I think it's beefy enough for my gasser. I keep thinking I'll put it on a diet but instead I keep adding more to it.

It started life as an early askman mount. I later added some of your parts, some raptor parts and lots of Home Depot to make it a panning mount. It's a real pig after all that. I just managed to get a form of altimeter lashed to it, that didn't help the weight either. It sends down a series of dots and dashs over the downlink to indicate too high or too low. Pretty soon everyone at the local field will know morse code.

We had thunderstorms this evening so I didn't get to test it in the air.

The 580's sound like a good idea too. I'll probably try that if they'll fit.

Oh, that big lens seems naked hanging out in the air unprotected, I didn't see any threads for filters, not that I could affort the extra weight anyway. I guess we just take our chances.

try some of the Mikado 580's or you can save a few bucks and get the Helimax 570's. I have a pair of those also and they fly just as good as the 580's

I think I'm going to do the .7 mod gear upgrade. .5 kinda scares me with all the weight and size of blades I am running

Thank goodness for this exchange, I was worrying that I had caused the slop on mine.
