Hello Again

Have not ben on line for a while as I have been building my raptor 60. Now that it is complete I have a question about the engine.

I have set it up so that full throttle servo throw goes from fully open to fully shut on the carb. The question is how do I set the engine idle speed. I assume that if I fully close the throttle the engine will die. My experience with non-heli engines is that you have an idle screw that holds the throttle off fully shut, to give an idle speed. Not sure how to do this on my heli engine, which is a Thunder Tiger Pro 70 H.

Any advice welcomed.

Cheers

Pat

With the trim all the way back you should get closed to full open.

With the throttle trim at half the engine should idle, then shut it down with a kill switch that pulls it closed (throttle cut) or with the trim if you have a JR with analog trim.

I am pretty new too and have been thinking about this question as well.

In normal mode, when starting the heli, wouldn’t you want the low stick set to idle so that when starting the heli it goes right into idle? Then program the kill switch … which I will assume is a toggle switch on the TX to go to throttle closed on the low stick? Lastly, when practicing autos, wouldn’t the kill switch be used for this?

Depends on the radio.

With digital trims like futaba then yes, as you say but you have to set the over all throw up with the trim all the way back, then set the trim that gives your throttle cut some room to operate.

JR radios have analog trim on the throttle channel, in that case you idle at center trim and cut and low trim.

Spectrum has a digital trim that remembers its set position, you get it to idle at mid trim then hold the trim back till it shuts off, bumping it upwards once sends it back to its mid (idle) position.

I have a document that explains it well, pm or post your email address and I'd be happy to send it to you.

Yes, please send me the doc (roocat71@yahoo.com). Thanks, I appreciate that. Still fuzzy on this so hopefully the doc will help.
