Well last summer I had a mild crash with one of my Ions and the 601 sensor got damaged, I half ass glued it back together and glued a tie rap on and around it, the sensor worked fine on the bench. After that it had a tail twitch so I removed the tie wrap and the twitch went away. When the twitch came back a month or so ago I replaced the sensor and the twitch got worse if any thing. I started investigating and found a lower main shaft bearing that was toast, replaced it with no affect on the tail problem. I then removed the UBEC and installed a battery and switch, no affect. Then I tried a different servo, still nothing. I then installed a different auto sprag assembly, no affect. Well when I glued the damaged sensor back together some glue joined the sensor case to the shield plate and when I replaced the sensor I had none of the correct tape so I used scotch brand white foam tape, this proved to be the problem! When I took the sensor off my other Ion, bracket, tape and all and installed it the problem was fixed. I then put the scotch taped sensor on the other Ion and the twitch followed that sensor. I then removed the sensor from the shield plate and re attached it using some other piece of die cut real spongy gyro tape I had around and problem solved. I have mounted these sensors very rigid in the pas with no problem, I suspect it was not to ridged but that it was not isolated from RF or static coming from the machine through the tape to the sensor.
I thought I would share this because it seems that we Ion pilots have had a higher then normal amount of gyro (601) twitching and have found a number of causes. This is just one moor thing to watch out for :!:
