14S A123 5:45 Flight time 5 minute charge time.

XPS 9303 8 chan RX
HFE Frame G10
7.8 Lbs RTF
Actro 24-3 12 tooth
CC85 HV
Hercules BEC
+12 -12

don't laugh please, I fly in the stratosphere, and my tic tocs are a work in progress, I even tried a tail slide but bailed out too soon.

Most of this flight was very aggressive knife edge FF but gets hard to see because of the distance.

Camera is a Canon A610 point and shoot I think, Camera man is my partner in crime Kama1

phew.... finally uploaded :)

anyway it was shot with a cannon power shot A460
quality isnt that bad considering it was shot with a point and shoot.

enjoy

Charging in 5 mins is 12C - maximum manufacturers rating for A123 is 4C - also charging at 12C is 27.6A  Is this for real ????

I wonder the same thing. My charger can only handle 10s at 5amp... 25 min. charge time.

A123 M1 cells are charged to 80% in 5 minutes , the last 20% takes some more time . Thats my understanding . Charging them faster than that I think not .

Mastech AC to DC converter, Lab quality ultra clean power, 50 Volts and 20 amps.

5 - 6 - 7 minutes, the whole point is the batteries will be ready for you when you get back from flying.

Max manufacturer charge rating for A123 is 10C and this is where they rate their 1000 cycles at.

Air: its 14S1P

That was fun, I like seeing videos of normal guys trying stuff, it makes me think maybe someday I will be able to do more than putter around too :dontknow

One little point, A123/M1 cells are rated for 1000cycles at 10C discharge with 3A charge. Recommended fast charge rate is 10A. With a nominal DC internal resistance of 10mOhm, at 20A you are dissipating about 4W/cell or 56W in the pack, not counting contact/wiring losses. That is certainly a gutsy charging setup. Are you tracking your cycles? Have you had 100 cycles on a pack under that regime yet ? It would be great if you could start a thread when you get to 100 and update it every 50-100 cycles to let us know how the cells/packs are holding up to that kind of treatment.

whoa, I read on the original website what I thought was a 10C charge, however some fellows over on RCGroups have well over 1200 cycles now on packs which have been abused severly, high amp charges, out of vehichle/heli/plane right on charger, 100% DOD, etc..

There are also more people using the same ac/dc converter charging 10S2P at 20 amps with no problems to date with these packs.

The new cells will be released soon

Those (impressive) tests are being done with a max 12A charge rate although some others report using higher rates successfully. It will be interesting to see how your packs fair using the 20A charge rate.

For some wild speculation about the new A123 cells, see here: http://helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=41056

KG, pack temps are at 102 degrees F after 1900 + mah back in.

ALSO I goofed up and had the converter set wrong and pumped one of my 10S packs all the way to 45 volts!! ouch... they got hot and I quickly dishcharged the pack. so far they dont seem to be effected but only time will tell.

The A123 cells are certainly proving to be very tough :) If I ever get a big enough heli I imagine I'll be flying them (or their descendents!).

@Cryofix

do you still like your 14s setup?
because I want to go with the same setup as you got, accept for the servo's I'm going to use s9252 with the new HFE frame.

can you compare it to the standard 600l or 600xl on 6s?

kind regards remie

I cant really compare, because my flying skills suck, the 600L had power no doubt, but this feels better to me, more responsive throttle.

If you want all out over and above power go with the 15S this way you just split 1 pack in half and don't have loose cells.

From what I have heard it gives you another minute of flight time also.

I like flying my A123 these will take me all they way through my levels of learning and I have started inverted hover training and single 3d moves.
