OK while these have NOT been fully tested I wanted to let everyone know that once they are tested..... We will ALL have a solution for those users wanting more power for thier hurricane 550 and hopefully not worry about gear wear.

So you know I have worked with Adrian before and his stuff has always worked out and is awesome stuff.
BUT he and I will not commit until they are tested! Anyway Adrian wanted to show you whats coming for those that want to run higher power and higher head speeds.

My gears are on the way to test and I will let you all know how they perform!

Below are some pictures of the new CNC gears.

Adrian please elaborate on how they are made and the material. You da man and THANKS for doing this for use Hurricane users :noteworthy

The gears are CNC machined from a very strong form of delrin used for prototyping of high precision parts. It is temperature and humidity stable. The gears are gauranteed to be concentric to within 1/1000th of an inch. If you have high and low spots with these gears you have a bad gear hub :wink:

I made the first reduction gear .6M so pilots can use readily available pinions for the Hirobo Lepton. The gear is 68T and this works out to in between the 42T and 61T gears currently available for the Hurricane.

The Lepton gears come in 18T to 26T sizes so Hurricane pilots will have a huge range of gear ratios for motors from ~900Kv to ~1600Kv and 4s to 6s power systems.

Like Bob said we are testing these now. If all goes well we can have gears in a couple weeks.

Stay tuned......

Hi, sounds nice, just one question, when using larger pinion, wont they rub against the servo? Please check this as well.

No, There is no problem with the pinions and the servo. The 68T .6M 1st gear is smaller than the 61T .8M gear some pilots are using in this position. There is enough room to gear the heli 26/68 which is the biggest currently available .6M pinion.

Good to hear you are making such good stuff. I have problem with the main shaft gear after upgrading the power system to Trex600 BL.

I will be glad if you can send me some samples to test :mrgreen:

Looking at my Hurricane I see a problem. The gear mesh between the auto gear and the main gear is really loose. There is no good way to fix that short of a carbon frame with the auto gear moved back a few tenths of a mm.

We will see if my gear is strong enough that this will no longer be an issue. Hopefully this will be the case and this will be a good solution for stripped main gears.

Adrian, hmmmm mine doesnt have that issue??? you might try loosening the back frame screws for this bearing and slightly over thightening the front set. It might flex the frame enough to move the drive gear back towards the main gear.

OK I got the gears from adrian and while sitting down to decide what pinon, I decided to do the calculations on the NEW gear ratios with this set.

So you all know how to do it
(maingear/auto gear) x (secondary/pinion) = gear ratio

So for instance the stock Gaui gears with 14T piunion are:
(61/19) x (42/14)+ = 9.63 ratio
For the other Gaui pinions the rations are:
14T = 9.63
15T = 8.98
16T = 8.42

Also thew Gaui pinions with the Gaui 61T the ratios are:
14T=13.99
15T=13.05
16T=12.24

Now Adrian's new secondary is 68T which might shock some folks but do not worry it is smaller in diameter than the 61T gear but larger than the 42T.

So here are the new ratios with the pinons from 18T to 26T
Note: 24T and 26T are not supplied by Adrian. You can use Hirobo Pinions from the lepton for 24 and 26.

18T = 12.12
19T = 11.48
20T = 10.91
21T = 10.39
22T = 9.91
23T = 9.48
24T = 9.09
26T = 8.39

FYI I was running my 1100KV motor with the 14T Gaui pinion and 42T secondary.
With Adrians gears I am going to go with the 23T which will give me 40 more ropm in the head. Probably not enough to even notice. It I still want more head speed though I will try the Hirobo 24T

Bob

Enjoy

Bob

So that is a LOT of choices there

The Hurricane gears are on order. ReadyHeli.com will have them in a couple of weeks.

Perfect Circle Tranmission gears for the Huricane 550:

PC-3068 CNC .6M 68T 1st reduction gear
PC-5061 CNC .8M 61T Main Gear

Also for more ratios for the Lepton and Hurricane I am adding 3 more .6M pinions

Hard One Pinions for the Hurricane 550 (with RevCo Perfect Circle 1st gear) and Lepton EX:

HO-3024 24T .6M Hardened Steel Pinion Gear
HO-3025 25T .6M Hardened Steel Pinion Gear
HO-3026 26T .6M Hardened Steel Pinion Gear

OK folks and a special thanks to AdrianM for sending me a set of gears to test but here are the results.

This video is my RAW test:
http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/hurricane550&filename=1revgears.wmv

The secondary gear ROCKS!
Watch this vid and I put the sucker through some decent stuff that on the stock gear would have STRIPPED THEM in LESS one flight!

Adrians secondary is a MUST have for folks wantring a good drive system or anyone powering up this system!

Now you all know me.... and I dont give you a bunch of sh*t... TELL ME IF I DO!
This is a MUST HAVE gear even stock! I dont owe Adrian anything and I honestly am telling you the straight poop... Get this gear for sure.....

Adrian is sending me a new CNC main gear too... It is needed as you will see in my vid the frames flex enough that when your driving the head and expecting the tail to be driven as well is a problem.... I bet you that Adrians main gear will solve this but until I can test I wont know.....

WHEN I DO... I will share the info!

Adrian, you da man for helpingt to make this heli better :Bang :Bang :Bang :Bang :Bang

Yes... thats my heli and I have pretty much documented my setup here but I will again.

Century 600+ motor (kind of the same as the z30-1100)
Century 80 ESC
Adrians 68T secondary gear
Adrians 23T pinion
FlightPower 2500ma 6S packs
Mikado 500mm CF blades
All metal grips and head
2420 head speed
Raptor tail hub and tail grips (to solve tail locks with Gaui tail at higher than 2200 HS)

Tom... thanks that you like this vid.... I told you I would make a ROCKIN setup! Now all I need is Adrians CNC main gear :)

Wow!!! Nice flying!!!
I NEEED NEW GEARS :)
and uncle Bob, any news about cf frame development???I've managed to broke mine :)

Finless

Charlie from RotorWorkz and I will be working on something soon!
It's going to take a few months to get right so you should probably get a new frame set for now!

BUT when the CF frames come out.... It's going to ROCK :) :) :)

Боб, я очень рад, что ты пытаешся писать по русски :)
And ok, I'll try to fix my broken frame,
Now I'm waiting some parts and autorotation gear (I broke 2 of them) and then I'll try trex 600L motor with Align 75ESC and 7S123 setup and Z20 1700KV with 8S 123
I have already install GY611 Gyro on my heli it is a little bit heavy but really rocks!

WOW Piranha! a 611 on this heli? You are really going for it man :)

Yes you need gears and Revco will have them soon.
Adrian's stuff is quality and you will like them.

Oh, Bob, you r DA MAN! )
I would be so much appreciated!!! I think that i need just a couple of 61T gears cause now I use only them.
Also I wold like to say that I was the FIRST HURRICANE USER IN WHOLE RUSSIA :glasses2:

I decided to go for 611 gust after some attempts to fly tail forward after piroflips! 401 sometimes decided that I'm flying wrong direction and suddenly turns the heli by 180 degrees!

I had a strpped out one way with only a few flights . Seems a new front shaft that is longer and mounts into a bearing on a new motor mountis out
Gaui now offer 550 cf blades.
And a new kit with CNC head and CF blades from the get go.
I would like to get some of adrians gears also.

AdrianM
06-23-2007, 11:29 PM
Soundgodz - A lot of us already have the new gear shaft and motor mount. The stock gears still do not last. The 42T front gear last ~2 flights with a strong motor.

The front gear must use 61T and a high kv motor, to prevent gear stripping. I have been using this setup for +60flights and the front gear is still in shape. My problem is now the rear 61T gear and I am still testing the new Delrin gears this weekend.

Adrian or bob

My One way bearing has the gear teeth loose.
It looks like they glue the teeth to the bearing surface.
I super glued it back on and looks like it will hold for a while is the a better replacement for the one way bearing with teeth attached from another manufacturer....T.T or the like? :dontknow

Finless

Make sure the gear is not cracked which made it loose. Some peopl ehave reported this. If it is OK I would use green locktite to secure it to the one way bearing. CA may not hold well.

Thanks Bob

I have a couple more on the way.
I'll have to find some green ...Should not be hard in Oregon! :smokin:
I got the new motor mount today and got inline for some of Adrian's gears.
I have the stock motor 'but i have been flying the 550 wood blades.
They are real smooth for a newby like me.
I have a pair of 11.1v 4400 mah batteries get 18-20 minutes hover and beginner flight. I bet the combo of big blades and heavy batteries are whats getting my gears.
What kind of pinion & gear set up would you use in this situation where head speed is not the goal but more torque to the blades and less wear on the gear train.
Have you seen the new combo kit , Has the CNC head....Some of it.
looks like they left out the stablizer and can't tell if the new motor mounts are in, carbon blades
Do you know about this new package ?
thanks again for all the good work!! :D
