Hi guys,

I am having a problem with my Ion w/tempest FAI head that I cant quite figure out. I have very limited experience with MA products so I would love some input.

This Ion has a Torcman.de motor (16 turn) geared 9.5 to 1 and this yields about 1550 on the head after initial voltage sag. I am running 710 SAB's.

My Head setup is:
-3.3 delta
Long flybar
Freya Paddles with weights in
softest dampeners (I belive 50 duro?? cant remember off the top of my head, basically I am using the Cliff Hiatt setup recommended in the manual)

The think flys awesome, and really locks in a hover like I hoped it would but occasionally it will get into a mast bumping fit that I can stop by landing or wild cyclic inputs.

I have tried all the dampening options I have available. Heli came with very stiff dampening (70 duros and shims, the head was very very rigid) and I have tried various combos but I can seem to figure it out.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, It was suggested to try different blades so I am hoping to do that soon. Any suggestions as far as blades?? I am hesitant to believe this is the problem since so many fury owners use SAB 710's

Thanks

Tabb

Tabb,

You may find some good info here: http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=2253&highlight=

I just went to a different damping setup on my Fury with excellent results. I'm now running a 70 duro and a 80 on each side.

I run SABs with no problems and I run about 1500 headspeed in a hover. I get no wobble at the bottom of autos.

I'm sure DavidH will have some ideas.

Hope you get it worked out. Happy New Year.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, This is with the Extreme head correct??

The FAI head is very complex for a simple raptor flyer like myself :)

I will experiment with more dampening options later today.

Happy New Year to you too, hope to get more raptor bashing in with you this year :)

Are you saying that the machine does this while spooling down or while still flying?

I think what you need to try is a stiffer damper. We offer those all the way up to 90 durometer.

You may also, just for grins, move the delta to 0 and give it a try. I'm not exactly sure about this, just a guess.

Chris, it does it intermittently in flight especially in lateraly movements into the wind.

I will try some stiffer dampers, I just prefer the feel of the soft dampers since all it really does is hover.

I will experiment with the delta also.

One interesting thing I found is the problem goes away with the cameramount attached to the heli. So it may be that the Ion is just too light or that the blades are too stiff.

More tests to follow
