View Full Version : GY410 & S9650 combo not holding well

Guys,
I have just bought my first proper Electric (Mini Titan) and am overall very please with it - but... When you apply power the nose goes left (with the torque), and stays there until you back off the power. Likewise when you take off the power to yaws to the right and stays there until you re-apply power.
I have set the tail neutrally mechanically in Normal mode and started with a low gain, progressively increasing it until the point where the tail wags but still I'm not happy with the lock.
The lock I'm getting would be fine if I were just doing forward flight, but when you start cranking up the speed backwards or or backwards inverted the tail just slips away.
Is the 9650 too slow at 0.14 sec?
Would appreciate your advice.
PS I have the standard tail blades (Radix mains) in case it's something to do with the tail blades flexing.
Have got the maximum travel possible too.
Cheers,

Sounds like you might have "revo mixing" on. It must be inhibited. That gyro, servo combo works great for most of us. TimT

Tim is probably right. If you have a Futaba radio "revo" is active by default, for some odd reason.

Depends on what radio, the 9c super is inhibited by default.
Either way, disconnect the motor and move the throttle stick up and down and see if the tail rotor changes pitch, if it does you have mixing you need to get rid of. Also the light will change from solid to flashing. Perform this check in each flight mode.

Sorry fellas. No Revo mixing.

Is your tail belt too loose causing it to slip?

Nope, belt neither too slack or tight.....
Yesterday suffered two instances of going from medium speed backwards inverted - to forwards inverted. She just swung through 180 degrees in a split second. Basically slipped out.
If I'd been hammering along at high speed, I'd maybe understand it.
Thinking of going for a faster tail servo.

That servo has worked for everybody else I know so I don't think thats the answer. Is your 401 switched to ds mode? It comes set for analog and you have to set switch. TimT

Thats part of my question really. I thought that this servo should be capable of doing 3D flying, but the people locally who use this set up and swear by it only hover or do circuits which isn't really a proper measure of how a servo or tail is performing.
Yep. DS mode selected.
Have checked linkages are free with no binding.
Have taken the gain up until the tail waggs then backed it off a few points.
Have the full travel available to the tail slider. (90 on Limit)
No trims on transmitter
No Revo mixing etc
Have set up the tail mechanically (indoors) to be spot on.
Have 15% Expo on tail out of interest and 90/90 in Travel for the piro speed.
Will get to the bottom of it eventually.
Any chance the tail control rod is flexing when the tail is under load?
The heading changes with power applications has reduced somewhat. The main problem is the slip out when flying backwards.
Cheers chaps.

Check that the tail drive pulley isn't slipping under load.

How much gain in HH mode ? Is your tail set-up wright in Normal mode. Does the tail drift in Nomal mode when you hoover the heli ?
Grtz,
Dirk
Are your 401 limits setup so that the servo is not driving the tail to the extremes? This will cause the tail servo rod to flex and unpredictable swings of the tail - I had this problem with a 240, I had to make sure the mechanical limits were right to fix it. The 401 has limit adjustments making it easier to fine tune so long as your mechnical setup is close. Just a thought.

Dont bother if its got a short throw like the Trex, just center the slider in rate mode with the servo arm 90 degrees to the linkage, run as much limit as you can w/o binding and probably a very short servo arm, I had to drill a hole closer than the closet one to setup my Trex. Just fly it in heading hold if you use this setup.

Hi mate u in gov mode?? if not set it up and your tail will be solid and make sure to check the tail pitch slider has ive seen loads of them after a few flights go realy stiff and create alsorts of tail proplems. And dont mean to sound funny mate but i never had a proplem with what ever servo i used for 3d they all work has long has u set the gyro up for the right servo my mates using hs56 on tail with 401 and i can 3d without a proplem well its not has nice has my digi servo but still works fine
