Default ESC Donut

I am trying to route my wires on my 3gx super combo and i was wondering what that donut looking thing was that the lead for the esc was wrapped around and if i can remove it without causing an issue.

It's a ferrite core, and it's there to suppress noise.

I pulled the wire through a bit and re-wrapped it a little closer to the ESC end of the wire for easier routing.

The closer to the ESC the better, I even took the connector body off and added one more wrap on the core.

See HERE for a photo of how to mount it.

I heard that this toroidal ring is not needed if using with 2.4Ghz radio.

I have also moved it over a bit for easier wiring. Don't know if it's needed or not but i figure it must be there for a reason... must be some people have had problems with "noise" before.

I left it where it was and was able to route it without an issue. The nose compartment has hardly any room though. My heli is now all put together and ready to rig. Im taking the day off from working on it because my head hurts just thinking about going through the 3gx setup. I read all the posts about tail rate mode and have no idea what they are talking about. Ugh

Although it is true to say that 2.4GHz systems are less prone to interference, some components, such as gyros are easily upset by noise on their inputs. A ferrite ring is very effective at reducing conducted EMI so it's a good idea to keep it in place.

Think of it this way... Align choose to include this component and it costs them to do so. Rest assured that if there was no good reason to do so, they wouldn't bother.

I asked about it in the 500 section. I was told it can be taken off if your using 2.4ghz but I just left mine on. I just wrapped it up closer to the esc.
