that's just awesome!
G'day all
Thank's for the replies it looks like it has grabbed some people's attention as it is quite different to most canopies.
I had it painted locally by a mate's friend, which he paint's for a living.
He mainly paint's helmets for motor sport.
He has just left to go on a 3 week holiday to the US.
If you wish when he gets back you can drop him a email on rodgilchrist@bigpond.com .
I will be getting another canopy painted by Rod when he gets back.
To get the canopy painted is not cheap about 220US depending on the design you would like it could vary from basic colours and lines to full on mural work.
The paint he users is a candy apple automotive for all purpose application with a two pack clear coat.(Fuel proof) :arggg:
I cant wait for him to get back so we can work on a new design.
All the best for the new year and safe flying.
Regards Alex.

Hey Alex I love the paint job
But I want to know more about this ION that you converted to a 50expert???
How is it?
David
Hi David
I am converting my 50expert to a ION.
I haven't been able to finish it till today as I have just received my new
motor. (actro 32-3)
I have put the conversion kit together to fit the motor in but it looks like
something is a miss as the spacers supplied with the kit are to long. :bomb:
I wont be fitting the small fan that comes with the motor kit as you need to
dermal out a far bit of the side frames I want to make sure it all works first and see what sort of temps the motor gets to.
I am trying to get this heli ready to take to the x-cell cup which I'll be going to in 3 weeks time it is held just outside of Sydney.
I have left the 50 size boom on the heli and will fly 640sab with 95 tails
and 85 vpaddles.
All servos are 9252s 601 on the tail and 2xtp5s4p.
At the moment very busy at work, trying to get the heli finished and test fly and make sure she goes with enough time to make changers if needed.
Have ordered the open tail box as well have not received it yet.
Hope this was useful to you David.

Alex
Let me know if there is anything we can do to help...
Chris
hi Chris
It had me stumped for a minute as the spacers wouldn't fit they are about 6 mm to long. I looked at using the upper holes in the side frames but they do not line up with the bearing block. The holes in the bearing block are lower than the holes in the side frames you can't push the bearing block any higher as the bush for the little fan hits the main gear.
So by that point the veins started to pop!!!. :arggg:
With the kit I was supplied you can only use the slotted holes in the side frames but that means the stand off spaces are to long so I decided to shorten them and that seemed to have done the trick.
The fan sits pretty hight up and you need to dermal out quite a bit of the side frames for it to clear I haven't done it yet as I want to see it work first before I start to chop up the side frames.
Still having problems with secondary gear stripping I have put my original 52t gear back on and it is working fine I have had about 55 flights with this gear so far. With the 54 and 60 gear 4 flights combined.
When spinning the secondary gear on its spindle the gear does not seem to be spinning 100% true. Both the stripped gears have got some teeth stripped followed by some teeth not stripped at all it seems to be a hit and miss.
Hope I haven't rambled on to long but some food for thought.

Can you tell me if the upper bearing block you have is a two bearing block or a three? Did you purchase the conversion kit for the 32-3 or ? And which 32-3, the heli version or the original? I think somehow you must have been sent some wrong parts. You do have to remove some material from the frames for the fan to clear, this (fan) is something that came about after the frame design. As it states in the instructions, the fan is optional and it's installation is up to the builder. If you choose not to use it, the motor will run hotter. How much hotter is dependant on the flying style. I flew those motors for a long time without the fans and had no problems so it's conceivable that you may not either.
Chris
chris i ordered the kit to suit the 32-3 original not the heli version as you suggested.
motor is fitted and looks good, hope it works well.
alex
ps i see you like to stay away from the secondary gear problem.

Hi,
The price depends on wether you would like pictures over your canopy or not. For a canopy the same as this one minus the pictures will cost around 150US this includes painting of your horizontal and vertical fin.
Rod has been painting my motorcross helmets for the past 10years along with rc car bodies and heli canopies, im yet to see anything better
