Hi,
I am a dedicated photo- and film/video- and creatvity-worker.
I need an aircraft, capable to lift and carry a HD-camera and/or other assistative equipment.
The question is; The lifting capacity.
The other question is about single rotor vs. tandem rotor for this purpose (although this most probably belongs to a different section here); but it will influence on my final purchase.
I was thinking of carrying up to 6-8 kg's of equipment. My second option is to reduce the weight of the camera-equipment, but the lens alone is heavy stuff - so there is a limitation here anyway. So I'd rather go for a bigger machine then.
My current camera is a Canon XL-H1, and in addition to this i want to install a downlink + OSD w/gps + some fpv-equipment.
Thanks in advance, and best regards

Hi,
i am not an expert of turbine helis but i think that such kind of machines are not the right choice to do AP jobs and for many reasons:
1) checks, inspections and wearing of parts: a turbine heli will need VERY accurate maintenance if you need an affordable ship for your camera equipment; of course they sounds cool but ...
2) costs in case of crash: crashing this bird will cost you like two mikado logo 14 complete with batteries and flybarless setup ;-)
3) payload: dunno the lifting capacity but i guess 6Kg of payload is enough for ANY rc helicopter
Even tho the budget is not your problem i would get a gasser helicopter like the Vario Benzin Trainer http://www.vario-helicopter.de/benzin_trainer.html to do the job.
And for the tandem rotor: you mean an RC Chinook? hey, are you kidding? ;-)

Hey,
If anything the Turbine ship is better for A/P work than the Gasser, reason being there is less vibration to worry about. Also the Turbine is more than likely more reliable.
However it does have its draw backs to :
1. High fuel comsumption compared to Gassers, a full Gasser tank will probably last 45 minutes and need to carry less fuel hence allowing more weight to be carried in the form of camera's etc.
As for load carrying capabilitys, the Turbine will be just as good if not better especially in hot weather when some Gassers engines can suffer with power lose unlike a Turbine which will run the same day in day out.
BellBloke, who flies a WREN powered Century Predator has experimented with load carrying capabilitys as have the Bergen guys I think to with their observer, I'd say chat to these guys for their opinions.
