Since I got my T-Rex (and now my Mini Titan), I have always stopped flying when the wind picks up. So, basically I don't fly in wind. I believe that you can fly these heli's (mini titan) in wind, right ? What can this heli handle when it comes to wind speed.

I'm just afraid that i will loose it because it's so small, but I'm sure that it can handle certain winds. Does anyone else fly on windy days ?

I've flown mine in winds over 15mph, gusting 20mph and it handles the wind very well for a small heli, although I've been flying helis for quite a while now and I'm reasonably proficient. To be honest, if I didn't fly when there was some wind I'd hardly get a flight in at all!

i've flown my t-rex 450's in 25kt winds with no problems at all. Ron

Hey all I have been reading around researching the mini titan.
I hope you dont mine if I hijack this thread for a quick second, but I see that you all have a rex & the MT.

I am looking to purchase my first heli of this size and was wondering which of the 2 heli's are easier to work on? I ask because I can see a significant difference in the frame and part placement between the two.
Thanks, Noah

This is a difficult question to answer. I like my mini Titan more than my T-Rex (which is now my brothers heli). I prefer the Mini Titan. To me it is more stable in flight. And I know a lot of people might disagree, but it is a personal opinion.

As for the easiest to work on. Can't help much there as I bought the rex second hand and the mini titan was the ARF kit. But I can tell you one thing, I had to replace the gear that drives the tail rotor belt (the one that is in the heli frame, NOT on the tail rotor end), and I had to take the main frame apart to get the gear out. This was on a T-Rex 450 XL. The new Rex's has a different design (I belief).

If you have to do the same on the Mini Titan, you have to take two bolts and two screws out, and you can remove the whole tail, and that gear comes out as part of this assembly (don't have to take the frame apart). But, the T-Rex SE looks a lot different to the one I have, so hopefully someone else has more experience with both heli's than I do.

My Mini Titan is new, and I haven't crashed it yet. So I haven't done a lot of work on it. I like the tail assembly that can be removed. I like the tail pitch slider design (or everything that links to it). I have upgraded my T-Rex tail with the blue Align parts. And I think personally that the Mini Titan has a better design there. But, that's an opinion and a lot of people might agree and a lot might not.

Which one do you like better? Thats the one you should buy. Its as easy as that. Both are very good heli's.

Fade-Dude,
I dont know which I like better. I havent flown either one. They are both in the same class and both are good performers from what I hear. However I was wondering about the ease of maintinance between the two. I seem to think I am some sort of hotdog and spend a good amount of time repairing. I know the two have a totally different frame design and parts layout. Therefore I figured one must be easier to work on. ie. one must be a better heli for me.

I get your point though. Fade-Dude
I wish I could see a titan in person but non of my lhs's carry the titan.

If you see it in person, your gonna take it!!

In my humble opinion, the Titan kicks the trex 's ass in the looks department!
I'm alost sure as well that the titan is easier to work on, better "modular" frame design, and larger frame...

I have not flown a trex before, so flight characteristics I can't comment on.

One thing you should concidder is that you will most probably get less flight time with the Titan. The blade span is bigger, beefier motor...

Some guys have reported 10 minute and above flight times.... I get about 6min. Then again, I suppose a bigget machine needs bigger/better batteries :-)

Dade-Dude, Thanks for the input your info is very helpful. I think I am leaning twords the rex for parts avaliability & flight times.
However I still am drawn twords this titan...

Back to the point of this thread. The titan is a bit bigger & from the few flying weight specs I can find the titan can run as much as a 1/4 pound hevier.I would think that this would make the titan a bit more wind resistant.

I am curious if it is noticable to those who are flying both heli's?
I like stevehonn have few days that arent blowing pretty good. :(

Hey, I flew in some nice windy conditions yesterday... the Titan flew just fine..!! on the top of the stall turns I could feel the wind, but the general flying was very predictive and I had no nasty surprises.... actually,. I am very impressed!!

My friend has however flown his Trex in windy conditions too, and he also said at that time that the heli handled fine.

The titan is a bit bigger yes, just a bit, but alot of guys say it flies a bit more stable due to that fact... like I said, I never flown a trex before, but the Titan flies very nice

Well Fade-Dude I need not know how this MT compares to the rex in the wind any longer because as of today I am now the proud owner of a TT mini Titan.
:D  :D  :D :D :D :D
I can hardly contain myself. The wind blows so often where I am at. For almost the last year I have been flying a blade heli. I fly it real well and sometimes I just can't stand not going out cuz of the wind. I will often fly in winds so strong the heli can barely make any ground at all flying into the wind. (but really halls down wind).
I am very excited to have the MT. It should allow me about 300 more days a year to choose to fly and be able to tell the heli what to do & not just fight the wind all day.

Hurray for a bigger heli & hurray for the Mini Titan.

Thank You all very much for the input. I will be sure to post some result as soon as I get it built and get out to battle some wind. Noah

I know you (made the right choice) bought the Mini Titan but I thought I'd add my bit. I bought a mini titan kit and was amazed at the thought that had gone into it. It was a complete joy to build and i finished it in one sitting! I believe the kit is cheaper, parts are cheaper and my opinion is that it's more capable and looks much better than the T-Rex.

hi
i always fly in the wind.. i stop when it blows me over..

the only bad thing about wind is you have to be very good on your collective... otherwise the MT handles fine.

the strongest i've flown in was about 50km/h (30mph)(not recommended). but MT handles 15 -20mph with no problems..
