Do I need a governor with the trex 600 nitro? If I do use a governor,...does it override my throttle curves?

no you don't need a governor , if you have one , depending on how you have it set up , when you flip into idleup , the governor takes over and keeps your headspeed at whatever you programmed it at. it is still nice to have a curve set just in case the sensor on the gov goes out and it reverts back to the throttle curve....

I was just looking at the manual and on page 10, Align has an illustration of the governor sensor and next to it a comment
"Option/Unnecessary equipment : Governor sensor"
What does this mean? I think the wording could have been different...

what they are trying to say is that a governor is not a required item to be able to fly. Which means that its an optional accessory.

A governor just gives you a more constant headspeed during aerobatics so when the head is loaded differently the governor responds to keep the speed more the same. It is useful for consistency in 3D but not essential for normal sport flight.
They can be set to give 1 or 2 different headspeeds and depending on radio and channels available can be switched on by a dedicated switch or programmed to come on when the idle up switch is flicked or when the throttle stick goes above a certain position.

So is this right? if you set your idle up throttle curve to 90 90 90 all the way across it would give you 90 percent throttle no matter what your pitch was, but it wouldn't compensate for load on the motor. From what I'm getting, the governor senses the motor bogging down from the load of 3d flying. Then it automatically adjusts your throttle to try and hold the same rpm constantly. It's like cruise control going up a hill and your gas pedal goes to the floor trying to hold a constant speed. Now without the governor and a throttle curve of 90 90 90 etc.. would be like going up a hill and having your foot on the gas pedal 90 percent down and not moving it. The steaper the hill gets the slower you go because your foot is not compensating for the climb. How am I doin? close?

yea , that's about it. the governor senses the motor RPM drop under load and try's to keep the motor RPM the same which in turn keeps your headspeed the same , within 1%... if the motor is bogging in 3D and requires 100% throttle , then the gov gives it 100% throttle , if the load goes away like at 0 pitch, the governor comes off the throttle by whatever amount it needs to keep the motor rpm where it was set so the he3adspeed doesn't go over what you set...
I wouldn't set your throttle curve to just a straight 90 all the way , i'd do a v curve , i currently run in normal mode a straight 0,25,50,75,100 and my idleup1 and 2 are 100,85,75,85,100 , my governor is set for 2000HS in idl1 and 2100 HS in idl2 :glasses2:

if you go down the hill, governor act as a limiter, and lift your gaz petal in order to keep a constant rpm

Correct benzmaster.
Kreeper , there are a few books out there about heli's and setups but i couldn't tell you the names , GravesRC is our LHS and they have a whole section of books and How to in the shop , not sure if they have the books online yet.... you can call them @ 407-294-5699 , ask for Gary , he's the General Mgr and can provide you with the best books they have on heli's , tell him you got the # from Ernie on Helifreak..... they can also ship your order to you.... Other than that , i'd go to other online store's like Heliproz , grandrc , rchover , see if any of those have books on Heli's...
Good luck...... :glasses2:

in my opinion, a governor is a important if you want to keep your engine (and model) healthy. I am specifically talking about when in Idleup mode with a V curve, and you want to descend fast.. the V curve and Gravity are working together to BOOM the rpm which causes over reving!. and when you want to do a sudden stop during this descend your model will be under lots of stress.. its gets even more important in the 90Size helis.
