Hey guys,

I'm looking for an alternative to the Futaba S9254 Tail servo for the Hurricane. I'm about to order 3 Hitec 5625MG for cyclic, but need a tail servo that will be around 50-60 bucks to push me over$200 on my order so I can save $30. I'm going to use a LogicTech 2100t. I'd like for it to be able to handle 6V. I've got a few HS81 laying around and their speed is kinda fast (42oz/in,.09sec @ 6V). I'm not a 3D pilot......yet......Any ideas?

Also, does anyone have the part numbers for the Raptor links so I can replace the short ones that came with the kit?

THanks,
Leo

Hitech is suppose to be coming out with a tail servo for the 2100. In fact I may be mistaken but I think it is out already... not sure though.

The Raptor part# is TTRPV0041

Here's a link to the gyro/servo combo http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRWX5&P=

The HSG-5083MG servo is half torque but .02sec faster than an HS81. The description says "Optimized for 400-600 class EP helicopters". Also, the specs are only for 4.8V.

So I guess my real question is: "what is the minimum torque/speed needed for a tail servo on the Hurricane?" and "Can I get away with using the HS81 for now?"

Thanks for the link to the ball links! I'm still in awe that "FINLESS BOB" actually replied to my question. I feel honored........ :OMG

I have used HS81's for cyclic before and while an OK servo I cant really see this working as a tail servo on a heli this big. This heli needs a full sized servo! Heck the mounting hole is for a full sized servo. an HS81 is a mini.

The hitec servo with the 2100 is made for the Trex450 and other 400-450 class helis. I dont think it will work well on the hurricane honestly.
However I thought that Hitech also had a full sized servo for the 2100 too? maybe I am wrong :dontknow

OK,

Here's what I ordered. http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HS-6965HB

It's fast and runs on 6V. Should do the trick.

Hmmm well.... you would have been better of with a real tail servo but since you insisted.... I hope it works out.

Here's what the description said and what made me try this servo for the tail :

"Providing a blinding fast .08 transit speed, instant torque and fantastic holding power, this servo is perfect for high performance heli tail rotor applications"

I'll let ya'll know how it works out.

lvseicsh - Check with Hitech that this servo will work with gyros in the high frame rate mode. Just becuase they say it will work as a tail servo does not mean it can handle high frame rates.

Also, tail servos work very hard. Even though they some are rated at 6v dosent mean they will live long as a tail servo at 6v. To be safe run a voltage step down. This will keep your servo from overheating and possibly failing.

The Hitec servos do indeed operate on a different frame rate than Futaba. I just got 3 Hitec 5625mg digitals from Servo City for use on cyclic. I would have loved to grab one of the much cheaper Hitec's for the tail but they just aren't compatible with my GY-401. I got lucky and picked up a good used Futaba S9253 digital for the tail from a local flyer. Now I'll be set when the bird gets here next week.

Oh crap,

I didn't know about frame rates!!!!!!!!!

What the heck is that!!!!!!!

If you got the Hitec/Logictech gyro that you posted the link to you should be OK. If your like 99% of us and have a Futaba GY401 then you'll have a problem with the Hitec digital in digital mode. Here is an excerpt from the GY401 manual:

•DS switch setting precaution
When the DS switch is set to the ON position, the rudder servo is driven by
approximately 270Hz high-speed pulses. This mode is for use with Futaba
digital servos only.
When using servos that are not compatible with high-speed
pulse drive, other than digital servos, never set the DS switch
to ON.
The servo may be destroyed.

Which gyro DO you have?

Yeah, and they say it won't work with JR servos either, but MANY people running JR DS3400G tail servos with GY401 in DS mode.

Hey all,

I've got a GY240, Telebee HH, and I'll have a LogicTech 2100t shortly. I guess ya'll were expecting me to have the GY401. :glasses2:
