View Full Version : Is This how the Heli responds?

Well, I've been on the Pre-Flight Sim for a day now and I can't believe this is how a Trex 450 responds. I see other sims and the Heli is rock-solid. As soon as I try to hover, the Heli drifts in some direction with momentum. So, there is no propensity in the design or flight characteristics for the bird to right itself? It is as if it on the bottom of a giant pendulum. The Sim creates a whole bunch of momentum in any direction the bird flys and you have to massively correct for it. It's like momentum molasses world. So, the main blades act like a big gyro and tend to make the bird keep going in any direction it's going? I'm good at hand-eye and 3D spacial orientation..and I can't imagine ever being able to control my trexSE if this is a correct modeling. Hopefully,
Pre-Flight just sucks. - Any ideas? Bob :arggg:

Addendum- I guess you really need a fast processor. The Laptop isn't giving me the kind of frame-rate I need. I can see that flying collective pitch is serious business and elite territory for sure. I'm going to stick with it.

Bob,
Yes, IMO PreFligt sucks, but if you are not getting at least 30fps on any sim then you simply won't be able to properly control a heli as the feedback loop will be too slow. Turn down special affects (smoke, shadows, trees etc) and reduce the screen resolution if you have to in order to get better frame rates. Or get a better PC ;)
I was able to run FMS, ClearView, Reflex/XTR and Phoenix with some reduced graphics settings on my Dell D600, PentiumM/1.8GHZ/2GB ram/64MB graphics and now run them w-i-d-e-s-c-r-e-e-n on my D620 (CoreDuo 2.?GHz/2GB/256MB graphics). They also all run well on my desktop (Athlon3000+/2GB/Radeon9800Pro 128MB).
If you want a comparison, you can try FMS for free and ClearView (www.rcflightsim.com) lets you fly for about 20min for free. I think ClearView is great value for money (USD$40) if you cannot afford a first class sim like Phoenix, Reflex or RFG3.5.
