my brother in law gave me his crashed razor. instead of using it for spare parts for my razor ive decided to fix it but kinda make it a low buck daily flyer i.e., cheap blades, less expensive servos, gyro, etc.. i have a 401 gyro that i intend to use but im not sure what tail servo i should use. any suggestions? also is there a less expensive servo instead of the 9252 i can use on the cyclic that will still provide adequate power and performance? thanks

60 oz of torque and above should work fine ,

Boy, you've got a nice bro-in law. Wish mine would pass on a few goodies. Did he give the motor, esc, and battery packs too???
Personally, I'd just use this as spares and fly the pants off you current Razor. You'll have more fun imop.
If you still want a cheaper Razor hack (never thought I would ever say that!) I would not cheap out on a good tail servo, it's just too important. The Fut401 is normally sold with a matching 9254 servo and I think this works best (although a lot of local guys use the 9252 on the tail with a 401 and it seems to work great).
The digital 9252's are great cyclic servos, no doubt about it. The analog equivalent is the Fut 9202. Same coreless motor and double ball bearings, but less power and speed. Still @ 5.5kg touque they are plenty good enough for cyclic and draw about 1/2 the power from you rx batteries. You can get 3 of these for about the same price as 2-9252's.
I have one of my Ion-x's with 9252's on cyclic and 9202's on the other and I cannot really tell the difference. The main difference is that I need to top up my 1700 Sanyo au Rx pack after 3-4 flights with 9252's while I get 7-8 flights with my 9202's.
Cheers,

yes i got the esc, 1 set of batteries and the motor too. i thought about using it for spare parts but for about 300 bucks i can get it back together, less servos. i figure i can set this one up for a little more flight time and use my other with the more expensive components and hot setup for those days when my flying is "on". my bro-in-law and i help each other so it really wasnt free. in exchange im going to put one of my 6s setups in his trex 450. thanks for the advice on the servos
