View Full Version : am I just wasting my time with the cp pro?
okay, heres the deal, I got a cp pro and I have put on a hdx 300 motor and the DD tail with the 3020 prop. I bought this thing so I could fly in my yard as the trex 450 is a little too big.
I went out and test flew just now after getting the above mentioned mods on the thing. I'm using a 9 tooth pinion on the hdx300. I am using the stock transmitter for now just to test it out.
Anyway, people said the motorized tail should spin the heli around quickly. My tail moved around about as fast as my walkera 52. I could have made lunch while it was coming around. Oh I have a heading hold gyro too and no 3 n 1. Power was okay but thought it would really be nuts with the 9 tooth on the hdx300. Had the gain turned all the way up and the tail motor still wasn't holding the heli on climbs.
Finally the stupid thing got out of control and landed in my swimmng pool. I am not the greatest pilot, but I can flip and roll my 450 and 600 and my mini zoom pro is eaiser to fly than this thing.
Is it really this complicated??

its a hard heli to fly... do the belt drive upgrade and from what ive heard the tail will hold..

I am still on the 3n1
I had to add some revo mix in my radio before it would hold @ wot.
Give you head a good look over. This thing is tiny and twitchy but mine flies real smooth when the wind is down. If yoou fly other helis pretty well this one shouldnt be THAT much more difficult. It should just need a bit more constanct input and correction. Also my piro rate is pretty crazy with the DD. I am thinking something must be wrong.

Yeah sounds like things are not quite set up right. Even when my CPP was mostly stock it wasn't really all that hard to fly. LOL, the thing that actually made it hard to fly for me was all the constant upgrades I keep doing. I never have a chance to get used to the helis feel.
Yes the Freestyle belt mod that TxFlyer imentioned is really a great answer to your CPP tail issues. I have it on mine and it holds strong.
How is your heli doing after you converted it to a boat in your pool. LOL
I am letting it dry out now. The last time I dropped a heli in the pool, it survive with just the battery dying the day after, everything else made it. It hink this time though that I may have lost some electronics. It was at the bottom of the pool, had to fish it out with the skimmer.

LOL, man I would have loved to see that. Maybe this time you can get some skids that float.
battery charged back up, although it will take a few days to see if it corrodes. receiver on my trex450 was the one that went in the pool like a year and a half ago and its been working ever since, same thing with the gyro I'm using on this, this is the second time its been dunked in water, don't know if it will survive this time but it survived last time and was used on 3 different helis. Speed control on my trex450 ws dunked in the pool too and survived. This time the SC on this heli started puffing smoke when I pulled it out so I think it didn't make it. You need to spray it down with alcohol or I use nitro car cleaner immediately after as that wicks the water away, I will fire it up tomorrow and see what works and what doesnt.

lmfao the moment i knew it was going into the pool id have made a running dive for the damn thing. aslong as i grabbed it by the skids, and tryed to throw it to back on the ground before it hit the water.
i have pulled off some amazing beer saves, one even got a big cheer from every one that saw it.. it was awsome...
i have found that that if electronics get wet with out any power on it.. if you let it dry out completely everything should work.. i let my cell phone sit for 5 days it went in a pool. worked fine. battery was toast tho..luckly it was turned off..

sorry to hear about the crash. she should piro faster than that...something is definitely messed up.
well I powered it up this morning. main esc is definately fried, a little depressed about that as others have survived. Tail esc seems fine, both motors seem fine, gyro seems fine. Receiver seems fine and battery still seems good. May corrode over time but so far so good. One out of 3 servos is working, the other two I think are toast but I'm drying them out extra good to be sure. Worse comes to worse I will use my dx6 servos that I have lying around. So I just need an esc.
Does anyone know if I can just swap gears and if that will cure the sloppiness in these servos? my dx6 servos all work great but are very sloppy, I was gonna swap the gears in from the original blade cp servos that are now fried.

take th covers off and look at how the gears are setup and that will tell you if you can use them. i use my dx6 servos on my pro..
BELT DRIVE MOD FOR THE CP'S 93 SHIPPED
well the servos are supposed to be the same, but is it just the gears that cause the sloppiness?

i dont see how aservo could be sloppy. its gotta be something in the chain of movement..

If you find that you need to replace servo's give the hitec hs-55's a try they are about the same price as the e-flite servo's and I have found them to take a lot more of a beating than the stock one's. However if you are using the stock Tx the servo's wont work without modification.

i just tore my head apart on my pro. my spindle shaft holds the blade grips togather was so bent i had to str8en it out a good amount before i could even slide it past the bears..
