Would making 7s packs from 3s 5000's and 4s 5000's in series, then putting the two packs in series for 14s be OK?

In theory it sounds like it should work fine, but just wondering if anyone thinks it may have too much potential for mismatched cells etc?

BTW I mean using all new packs of the same make, C rating etc.

If you look at most of the available 7s packs, they are split packs with 3s and 4s packs with a series connector built into the pack that you have to connect. So all you are doing is the same as the commercial providers.

Thanks, that's what prompted me to ask the question.

I guess the only thing to work out is how to get the balance tabs to work - ideally it would be best to join them together into one 7s tap or at least have the two taps so they fit into the 7s slot on the balance board. Apparently the Hyperions which come as a split pack come with an adaptor to make this possible.

I'm going to try one flight pack of Hyperions, and I was thinking I might try a budget option of Gens Ace 25C - two 3s 5000's and two 4s 5000's are around $200. I called HobbyPartz and they said they are still not planning on getting the new 7s packs in, so this is the best option from them. If it works, then they are nice cheap packs. If it doesn't, then it's not too much money wasted. I only fly sport and will run a lower HS than the hardcore pilots, so maybe they will be OK.

Cheers,
Ant

The Optipowers I have, use a single 7s balence tap, Thunderpower use 3s and 4s balence taps and you get an adapter that treats it as a single 7s tap.

I just did a quick search to see if those adapters are sold separately, but I can't see them. If I can't find them I guess a bit of ingenuity will be required.

Thanks for the info.

I didn't get an adapter. Just my TP balance board has a 7S slot on it where you plug in the 3S and 4S balance lead (Doesn't matter what order)

I also ordered some 7S parrelel adapters from Progressive (Has two leads)
