Hi Everybody,
As many of you who have the original Hatori SAB-12 Gas Muffler know, the original header comes loose at at the attachment point to the engine. John Garst figured out that if you drill and tap the header on the side and install set screws to keep the fix the header to engine attachment bolts it was a lot less likely to loosen up withthe expansion and contraction of the aluminum header. Tim at MA liked hte mod so well, he passed the info on to Hatori and the new headers have the John Garst Mod. I just got this muffler in from Rick's and it had the mod. :)
Anyone who has the old style can easily drill and tap the header to do this mod. You also may not need to after you get some flights on the original style header. I say that because my original style header would come loose about every 3 flights until I had about 15 flights on it, now it has made it for 8 flights without loosening up. (I hope I did not jinx myself :) )
Here is the instructions that come with the new SAB-12's and my header showing the placement of the holes at the bottom right of the pic.
