View Full Version : DX7 Beep volume?

So I just bought a new DX7 for my new helis and I've been playing around while learning how to program them. Unfortunately, the beeping at every button press is driving everyone in the house (including me) totally nuts! I realize that the volume should be loud enough to hear while outside and flying etc. but does it really need to be so loud and irritating when sitting in the house programming it?

Is there a way (short of opening the TX and putting tape over the speaker element) to reduce the volume of the beeper? Ideally, I could shut it off for programming, and then back on when done. How does one enter the service menu? Would there be a setting for beep volume in there?

I know it's kind of a whiny, stupid question, but I'm close to being banished to the outside! :)

i got a dx6 and the beeping drives me nuts. the book doesnt say anything about to turn it down.

ive thought about opening it up, and finding speaker and seeing if i can just mount a extra switch somewhere on the radio. some place it will be hard to hit and not be in the way..so i can turn the sound off when programming inside. then turn it on when im outside..

I asked Horizon about this when I got mine. They said there was no way to turn it down or off.

This is the email reply I just got from them:

"Jeff,
Thank you for your recent email. There is no way to adjust the volume
on the transmitter. I hope this helps."

Haha! Well, no actually, it doesn't help one bit! but thanks for getting back to me anyway! :)

Man, I can relate to this. Just got my DX7 last night and man does that beep penetrate the house..

I popped off the back cover and stuffed a small piece of receiver foam into the cavity above the beeper. The beeper is directly behind the little oval "grille" under the SPEKTRUM logo on the top front of the Tx. Much quieter now - just about the same volume as my 9C's beeper.

Skiddz, good idea. I'll try that.

Filby, from what I've heard, I don't think it is, but I don't know how to get into the service menu on this.

Here it is thanks to RCGroups:

Ensure the Aileron D/R switch is in the UP position.
Press and hold the DOWN and SELECT buttons and turn on radio. Now you're in the setup menu.
Scroll up/down until you get to the screen that says [Model Reset]
Press the Adjust Decrease button (r/h side of LCD)
Flip the Aileron D/R switch down
Press the Adjust Increase button
Flip the Aileron D/R switch up
Press the Adjust Decrease button
Keep alternating this Aileron D/R up/down and Adjust Increase/Decrease sequence (about 5 cycles)
The radio will 'beep' and the LCD will go dark. This is the LCD test.
Scroll Up/Down (left side of LCD screen) through the Service Menu (at your own risk)

I could not find anything in the service menu regarding beep volume.

Hmm, the volume of the beeper on the DX6i doesn't bother me.
I wonder if Specktrum realized the DX7 was too loud and fixed it on the DX6i.

Either that or I'm just deaf!!

Be thankful you can hear your timer! The beeper on the DX6i is so quite I can't even hear the timer when I am flying:thumbdown: Just today I tried adding an external Piezo buzzer to the TX face and hard wiring to the board inside and that still didn't add enough volume! I have now added a simple kitchen timer over the DX6i logo and not even using the internal timer. Kinda sucks to buy a descent TX and can't even use the internal timer:(

Maybe you are flying to close to yourself to hear it? :D I have not heard the dx6i beep. Is it that quiet?

My DX7 volume doesn't really bother me unless it is late at night. Outside I appreciate it.
