This is interesting news, but it's very unlikely that a first time F3C competitor will beat out some of the old guard that routinely places in the top 10, unless they've been practicing and flying in annonyminity.
Very few people go to the Nats and fly in F3C (highest class) for the first time, without having competed in several AA+ contests prior.
Is that first time in F3C, ever, or first time in F3C at the Nats? Either way, I doubt it will matter.
I would say it's safe money, also.
And since when does Tim and Chris get together on anything these days?

Hey, if Chris and Tim are getting together, that is not a bad thing at all, and kinda cool actually.
I agree with you guys that chances are slim, but you never know.
I applaud Charles and IRCHA for making a lot of new and exciting things happen. If it was easy, there would be more people doing it. At least IRCHA is spending their time promoting the hobby and putting together things like this and increasing the excitement level and incentive for people to try. I think it is a great turn around for IRCHA and I am happy to be an IRCHA member and supporter.
Will anyone win the 2000.... probably not, but you never know.

I'm not intending to poo-poo the idea...whatever it takes to motivate some people into FAI, and the Nats in particular, is great!
The problem is, F3C isn't the class that needs building up. It's the lower, AMA classes that are suffering, as there hasn't been any new blood coming into the fold.
BTW, here's last year's standings, and the people this winner of the $2000 would have to beat, during their first F3C contest:
3 O WAYNE MANN RANDLEMAN, NC 1883.768
4 O DWIGHT SHILLING WEST CHICAGO, IL 1782.708
5 O CLIFFORD HIATT WINTER GARDEN, FL 1707.86
6 O PETTER ATLE WALHOVD MORGAN CITY, LA 1681.23
7 O TIMOTHY DIPERI FRANKLIN, TN 1413.009
8 O GORDIE MEADE TALLAHASSEE, FL 1394.686
9 O YASUNOBU MURAKI BRANDON, FL 1374.823
10 O MICHAEL GOZA LEAGUE CITY, TX 1363.251
I think a new kit to the first-time winner of AMA Class I would be a great start, say a new EVO or Raptor 90, for instance.
Just MHO :dontknow

Erich,
Those pilots you listed have been flying F3C since I got into contest flying back in 1991. The USA FAI/F3C has been basically the same people since then. There has been a very low influx of new pilots into the contest scene over the last several years.
I agree getting NEW pilots a reason to join and compete in some of the AMA classes would be a much better choice. Eventually if they stay into contest flying they will migrate into F3C.
Like I said earlier, Tim or Chris know there money is safe with the rules for winning as set above. Not being a pessimist, just stating facts.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of this till I just read it. I could have been practicing for the last month. I hope they offer it next year. I used to practiice F3C back in 86 and 87. Now I have a goal!

Scroll down and to RC Helicopters and download the maneuvers. There is now 2 schedules of maneuvers to be flown at each event. In 2008 Schedule C will replace Schedule B. So A and C will be flown at events.
