My clutch has been grabbing for some time i have dropped the motor and found nothing, should i replace only the bell or the clutch and the bell i really dont want to fool around with replacing a liner. Or is there something else i can do besides replacing parts?

Thanks

are you sure the fan has not backed off a bit causing the clutch to touch the top of the bell housing as i had this problem once.. also have a look at your clutch to see if there are any cracks on the hinge part as this will cause it to spread out at low speed and will eventually break.. regards chris

Any hot starts? Its pretty simple to change the liner. Did you use a washer under the fan when you installed the fan/motor?

Yea its had a hot start or two, no,no washer. My thinking was was since its fairly cheap replace the bell and clutch but it would be nice to not have to.

Bent starter shaft maybe?
Hard to see but will make the clutch grab uneven. Don't ask me how I know...

Im going to drop the whole thing down and look at it and reset the motor just in case the motor is not perfectly aligned. Im also being told it could be a bad oneway bearing :dontknow

:D After a crash I had problem of clutch not coming nicely free.

Many people however forget to measure the two gaps of the flywheel!

When crashing the bang can cause misalignment between flywheel and bell housing.

If out of tolerance squeeze carefully in vice so both gaps are equal.

Measure with feeler Gage as used to adjust valves for engines.

Put aluminum protectors in vice or rag.
