Hi,

I'm new to this site and new to electric helicopters. I purchased a T-Rex 450 SA ARF and have been building it slowly with the help of this site and all of the advice videos available at the site.

Here is my problem. I have set up the BC6 to charge the 2100mAh/11.1V at 2.0 amps. I have the unit plugged into the wall outlet, the, the power cord into the BC6, the battery into the adapter (BC-5/6) 2-3 series (four pin) connection. I set the battery type to LiPo, 2.0 A and 11.1 V (3S) and held the start button for 3 seconds. The display read "Battery Check Wait..." and then changed to "Connection Break".

I went through the initial parameter set up and used most of the defaults except for Capacity cut-off (changed to 2100mAh).

On page 9 of the user manual, the second screen shows how many cells you entered and how many cells the charger recognizes, but I don't get to that screen because of the previously mentioned error message.

Any words of wisdom?

I have a BC5 and I had this problem as well. You have to connect the main power leads to the battery through the banana jacks on the charger as well as the balance connector. Apparently this is a recent software change and the instruction manual has not been updated yet to reflect it. Also, you have to set the battery type to LiPo balance charge.

Hey J Bomb,

I do have the BC6 in LiPo balance charge. I'm trying to charge it using the outlet in my house rather than a 12V battery. I'm not sure what you mean by "banana jack", is it an aligator clip? I'm sorry for my ignorance, but again I am a nubie. Could you please document a walk through for me so that i can charge this baby from my wall socket? I'm just trying to simplify as I'm not good with the lingo yet.

Your prompt and detailed response was most gratious.

Are you plugging in just the 4-pin connector?

The battery also has a red and black lead (the big thick ones), the one that you plug into the Heli's ESC. This must also be connected to the charger. It plugs into the charger via the 'bannana' type connectors that go into the side of the charger (they should have come with the charger?). However you may need to solder on your own deans connector to the other end to plug into the battery.

HPSOV2,

Thanks for your help. The 4 pin was connected, but I just didn't have the banana clips from the output connected to the battery.

My battery is now getting a healthy charge!

Sorry for the confusion, and I have one more tip. If you haven't already, I would recommend taking HPSOV2's advice and solder your own connector to a pair of banana plugs to connect to the battery. If you use the alligator clips that came with the charger, there is a chance of them accidentally shorting and damaging your battery and/or charger.

John,

Thank you for the additional tip. I do have plans to follow your advice as I have an extra Deans clip.

Now comes the fun part of setting up the DX6!

Thanks again,

Mike
