Just recieved 3 Flight Power EVO25s for my Trex. Some of the documentation with the batteries recommended storing them at 3.4 volts per cell.

My charger (Hyperion EOS 5i) will only discharge Lipos to 3 volts per cell.

On the NiCd and NiMh modes, I can defiine a cutoff voltage. WOuld any harm be done setting the charger to either NiCd or NiMh discharge mode with the voltage cutoff set to 10.2 volts for the 3s Lipos? There's nothing special to the discharge side of the charger as far as I can tell, just a current dump. Obviously great care needs to be taken when doing this as there would be no protection against over discharge.

Taking this one step further, the balancer (Hyperion LBA 6) could be placed in the circuit. It would provide protection from over discharge. It should never becalled in to protect the battery, as the 10.2 volt cutoff set on the discharge mode is higher than the 3 volt per cell cutoff level of the balancer.

Anyone see anything bad in this logic? Better yet, has anybody tried this?

Thanks in advance!

Storage voltage for lipos is 3.8 - 3.84 volts per cell. And yes, you can use the NiMH/NiCd discharge setting to discharge to the proper level. Depending on the cells and the discharge rate you may need to set it to discharge to a bit lower than 3.8 volts per cell to allow for resting boucne back of voltage.

I used my Triton in NiMH mode to discharge some parcks before the winter.
