ok so the fending has started i emailed don about swapping some parts in the kit for me, ive already got my stock plastic trex rotor set. since i wont need it he is willing to swap it out for a belt and a set of main blades for me to try out..mains were free..

i want to see some pics of cps with it.. ive seen them before i figured a thread about it with pics would help newbies out before they spend money on dd and all of that jazz. also includ what mods are needed to run this setup.. brushless main but whats some options for the brushless mains...

not yet

i cannot spend anymore money on helis, but if i were to sell something then the gf doesnt care... its kinda been bugging me i like the trex and want a heli that size, but ive always liked the mini titan over the trex.. so i was thinking of selling my trex with out servos or electronics.. getting the belt drive tail mod.. then im 60 shy of the mini titan.. the mini titan plan kit is 159.99. reason why i started thinking of selling the rex is cuz my lhs is going to start to carry tt stuff including the mini titan parts..

i started this thread cuz there are threads here for just dd tail. well the belt tail is new. people who sing up here and start modding there pro wont know about the belt driven tail mod..

belt drive is awesome. That's all I have to say about that. LOL. There were a few tricks I had to do to get the belt drive to work with my setup but they were all minimal mods and easy to do with a dremmel tool.
I have super skidz so I removed the CF sticks sense they become unnecessary with the lower plate supplied with the Freestyle belt mod kit. I also had to take a dremmel tool and cut out a small section of the rear landing bracket to allow the belt access to the main gear. Also on the CPP frame you have to cut a section of the gyro platform out so that the boom clamp has some room. It's easy to do with a dremmel tool.
I have the MH auto main gear and in order to get the belt gear low enough I had to take the bottom plate of the MH Gear and flip it which bumps the belt gear down about a 1/8' or so giving it a decent seat on the belt.
Other than that the kit was VERY easy and clean to install. For a tight and easy installation I recomment using a (#4 I think) nut driver and a 1.5mm allen driver. Both tools make the assembly much easier and allow you to get the tail boom tight without marring the nut.
If there are any angles of pictures that you guys would like to see regarding the belt mod just let me know and I will post them. I have several in my gallery if ya'll wanna look.

Ok, I posted some pics of some of the cuts that I made to get the Freestyle mod on my CPP with my current set up. Sorry they are a little blurry. I will try to get some better pics.

Nawww not too difficult at all. It comes with the same instructions printed out that are available on the website on the Freestyle Belt Mod 1 page. They are acceptable if you are modding the stock CPP. I wasn't so I had to kinda invent solutions to minor problems. There are no instructions on setting up the tail but it is pretty simple to do.
If you have the MH main gear you can look at the bottom of the gear. I removed the CNC plate that bearing housing is fastened to, flipped it over, and than screwed it back into place. On that CNC plate the areas where the screws are located are raised (thicker) so flipping the plate raised the CNC plate off the bottom of the main gear a little instead of it sitting flush.
That little trick may not be necessary on everyone's heli but it was on mine. The belt was just too damned low on the gear for comfort. Now it is seated a little better.
The one thing I am still working on (and it is a very small issue wich doesn't effect performance) is a way to get the screws really tight on the pullys attached to the lower plate. The are designed to keep the belt from rubbing on the outter edge of the boom, reducing wear on your belt. The nut seats down in the pulley its self so the only way I can get the screw to tighten down is to push my finger really hard on the top of the pully preventing the nut from spinning. I can only get it just tight enough to hold. I would like to get it just a tad tighter, but I guess it's fine. If anyone gets this mod and comes up with a solution let me know.

Yep I am pretty sure that will do it. I was thinking the same thing last time I was messing with it. I just wasn't sure where I could get some.

I think I can probably find something like that at Hemp Depot or an auto supply shop. I have some around here but none are curved and that is what would work well, thin and curved. Maybe even a pair of those curved tweezers might work.

well lemme know if you havent got a pair by the time i get the kit and try it out then like i said i will send ya a pair..

Ok. I went out and bought some VERY small curved needle nosed pliers. Than upon inspection an idea popped in my head. Flip the screw so that the nut is on the bottom (accessable) and put the alen head in the pully. This way all I think I'll need to do is cut down an allen wrench and vuala! Problem fixed. LOL
I haven't tried it yet so there may actually be a reason I orrigonally assembled the kit this way but from visual inspection it seems like a no brainer.
So, if this works your preferred tool kit for the Freestyle belt mod is a 1.5mm allen key (cut down), 1.5mm allen driver, Philips screw driver, and nut driver. A dremmel is helpfull if you have a CPP with modification, but not by any means necessary.

Yep that took care of the issue. So as it stands the kit is now set up very solid. It is really simple to install and actually takes very little time. Great mod. I love it. :noteworthy

I was gonna ship you one of my dremmels the other day but after shipping you may as well just go buy a new one. LOL. You probably don't HAVE to cut the allen wrench down but I find that doing so makes it easier for me. I have a bunch of 1.5mm allens anyway so why not make a specialty wrench. LOL
