Hi

My Raptor 30 has just come out of the shop, having paid £50 to have it professionally set up for the beginner. However the man who set it up said the engine, a TT PRO was past its best.

With the new season coming I have decided to replace it with an O.S.37 which I believe drops straight in. I can manage that bit as I have left the Clutch bell housing in position in the heli.

What I don’t understand is setting up the Transmitter to the engine, according to details on the RAPTOR.com site (Brilliant site). Its states that I need to set the Throttle, TRIM, CNT, CU.PH EPA ATV etc etc.

This scares the hell out of me, as the O.S. 37 has marks on the carb for CLOSED, HALF, and FULL THROTTLE can I just install the engine, close the carb, snap the throttle linkage onto the servo arm (Carb end), drop the throttle stick on the TX to down, then screw the throttle arm on to the carb,

Once on, so long as when the throttle stick is at ½ and the carb is half open and the carb is a full and the throttle stick is at the top, this will do wont it???

I have not altered any setting on the TX or servo, so surely the settings from the previously set up will suffice

Also As I cannot fly or even hover, what is the best was to test these settings and run the engine in, would it to be to buy a set of HEAD LOADERS and nail the heli down.

Any help would be appreciated

Alan

Find an experienced pilot nearby your location to help you. An experienced pilot will save you some misery and money. What area of the UK are you located? There is more than a few pilots on the board from the UK.

I think its this way: make sure your stick is in the middle when the carb is half open.

Thanks for your replys

I live in the west West Midlands north of Birmingham, i have read loads of books, web sites etc, but i think practical hands on help is not forthcomming so i look like going it alone

I just hope my theory works, as long as i dont have to alter the length of the servo rod to match up on the closed and open throttle positions i will at least have a starting point to enable me to run the engine

Please feel free to join us down in Colchester for a day's setup and flying instruction. I can make it most days.

Thanks for the response, NEW O.S.37 arrived today and decided to have a go at setting it up, I will try to make this as clear as possible as I need loads of help.
Went to Raptortechnics and downloaded Radio set-up-THROTTLE,

Set up radio as per these instructions

Installed fan and clutch on engine no problem, located marks on throttle barrel for closed, open, and half, and set carb at half throttle.

Offered engine up to Raptor, removing plastic arm supplied as it fouled body, set servo to half throttle, to see where servo arm was, then went to set carb linkage parallel to servo arm to give a 90’ angle

From then on it was all problems, removed engine, making visual note for position of carb arm, unscrewed hex on barrel, and the carb arm does not fit over the outside of the barrel, it rests on the top and the hex is to small to screw it down,

Overcome this using a washer between hex and carb arm, refitted engine, with carb at half open, arm is parallel to servo arm at half throttle

Problem one, As the carb arm is now on end of barrel and not slid over it, the carb catches on the Muffler, I solved this by increasing the “S” bend on the carb arm, it has only given me about 3 mm clearance with the linkage on though.

Went to put the servo linkage from the servo arm to the carb arm, and it is nowhere near 90’ so I took the servo linkage off, a black HEX SHAPE and replaced it with a WHITE one with 4 arms stretching out much further downwards.

Now using the last hole on the servo arm, the carb opening is at half ,and the throttle stick is at half and the angles are 90’

Then another problem, went to full throttle with the servo linkage loosely over the servo arm ball and it travelled all to way to full open on the carb, did the same for closed and that was ok. However this was only after adjusting the ATV at both ends so that there is no straining of the servo arm wanting to travel further in either direction

I Started out with a default of 80% at either end, and finished up with 65% at one end and 70% at the other end, Are these figures to low as I keep reading they need to be 90 plus and equal.

I am concerned about the carb arm fouling the muffler in flight, and also the ATV being wrong

Sorry this is so long but it needs to be fully understood

Take 3Dgonnabe up on his offer to help. He can show you in a few minutes what needs to be done. It will save you hours of frustration and get you in the air sooner.

If the throttle arm is hitting the muffler. It might be as simple as positioning the throttle arm 180 degrees opposite of its position now.
