ok so i picked up the kit today.. canopy looked at first glance.then noticed it was not fiberglass.. and at the slight bend trying to figure out wht is is IT CRACKED..ITS PLASTIC!!! where these days for a 500 $ kit to you get a plastic canopy??? terrible..............THEN ON all the pictures i saw and EVEN on the box it shows METAL bearing blocks...started the build..PLASTIC BEARING BLOCKS...really??? plastic.. i cant believe it,just cant..... the slop they will develop on a 12s heli beating on it will suck,, ..wondering what else im gonna hate about it.. ill let u guys know...

this is what is pictured on the box and it is pictured on most web sites

and this is what comes in the kit!

03-01-2012, 06:38 PM
well the head is awesome, the tail assembly is maybe the best ive seen,, and the airframe is very light....still mad about the bearing blocks...

Seems like it depends on what web site you look. Most sites have a plastic shown, and Tower Hobbies also shows a plastic. Thunder Tiger's site shows metal, but under optional parts, shows the metal parts in there.

What do you mean a plastic canopy?
Is it a thicker ABS, or a cheap thin lexan? Or is it thin fiberglass?

Well i know it's not what you would like to hear but you can easily fix the plastic bearing blocks :
upper (http://www.helikraft.com/Thunder+Tiger/All+Items/Thunder+Tiger/PV1406/Metal+Upper+Bearing+Block+X50+%28PV1406%29.html) and lower (http://www.helikraft.com/Thunder+Tiger/All+Items/Thunder+Tiger/PV1407/Metal+Lower+Bearing+Block+X50+%28PV1407%29.html)

I know i know it's not in the kit, but still easy to fix (they are not that expensive) if you really want them.

There is incident described in X50 nitro section here (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=389496) where according to Hector, faulty bearing block caused his crash.

right on the box the kit came in has pictures of the heli close up with METAL bearing blocks............ the canopy is like a hard poly something. do not try to bend it. i bent it half of what i do most fiberglass one and like it said it cracked..

The canopy is fiberglass, not plastic. I don't know what to say about the bearing blocks. The plastic ones seemed to be fine on the prototype I've been flying since septemble , the only time I've seen one break is after screwing up aerobatics in an auto, and watching it fall from about 100 feet with blades stopped, landing on it's head. That's about like hitting the head with a sledgehammer at full force, so I don't think anyone would expect it to stay together <G>.

no its a poly something of a plastic. i can slice it with a razor knife.,,the plastic bearing blocks will develop slop in short time with hard flights.

03-03-2012, 03:25 PM
on the table have not even flown it yet ,i can grab the head and make the bearing in the upper block to move back and forth..the bearings just slipped in the blocks with no force at all..so nothing really wrong with plastic bearing blocks??

That's really strange. I have three canopies for it and they are all fiberglass, including the new production green one. I'm absolutely positive due to the dust when dremeling. The motor I'm using is a few mm longer than thunder tiger intended, so I have to cut the top of the canopy to clear, hence the fiberglass dust. It's also obvious due to the fiberglass weave you see on the unpainted inside.

Hmm i'll let you know what mine is like when it turns up it's not far off now i've got all my stuff together for it can't wait for maiden flight but i'll need to do a nice slow build so i don't miss anything with it.

Cheers Luke.

I received my kit recently. My canopy is plastic. I will be installing the metal bearing blocks when I build it.

03-07-2012, 07:19 AM
i would definatly install the metal blocks. i can wiggle the bearing in the plastic ones(only highend kit on the market that comes with plastic bearing blocks ) does align still make a kit with plastic ones?i belive it was great planes idea to greater profit to have tt put them in the usa kits.. just my opinion

03-07-2012, 07:23 AM
yes if u go to towerhobbies it says "Canopy: ABS preprinted color shifting" . i think usa heli flyers sorta got screwed a bit with cheaper stuff in the kit for the same price.

03-07-2012, 07:27 AM
bluepilot. where did u order the metal bearing blocks from?

03-07-2012, 07:31 AM
never mind found them, pv1406 pv1407 .tower has them,

03-07-2012, 09:17 AM
Interesting. Guess I was wrong. Sorry about that. X series has only had fiberglass canopies till now , so this must be something new for the E version.

03-07-2012, 09:34 AM
Just got word it is something new. The nitro kits are fiberglass and the E is plastic. Really sorry about insisting they're all fiberglass,.. the plastic is something new and with my machine being a prototype, I only have f/glass canopies and that's all that has been listed till now so I was not aware of it.

03-07-2012, 04:14 PM
are the nitro canopys the same shape and size to fit on the x50e?? in case something happens and the stock one breaks.id go with one of those if they fit..

03-07-2012, 04:18 PM
I would think so if that is the case i'll piss off the plastic canopy & use my X50N canopy that came with it's kit as i have a fusuno one for that now. But when i get the funds i want to get a second fusuno canopy for the 50E as well.

03-07-2012, 05:32 PM
so, the nitro canopies the same size and shape as the electric x50?

03-07-2012, 06:00 PM
i'm not sure as yet i'm still waiting on my kit to be frank both thunder tiger & our importer have drop the ball on this one i'm rather tired of waiting & it's pissing me off as i have no further info other than i keep getting told they were ordered so does that mean they are on there way or they were ordered but thunder tiger are out of stock till more are made...

It's really starting to frustrate me & piss me off if i don't have the kit soon i'll cancel my pre-order & get a refund as it's not worth the wait if i'm not being informed of a delivery date.

03-07-2012, 09:08 PM
wow. takes a long time to get tou country.. well if u are a thunder tiger fan, then wait for a kit.. some of the stuff on it is nice,, it is a smooth running heli... needs some tweeks ,but not a bad ship

03-07-2012, 09:16 PM
All the X50 canopies are interchangeable as far as I can tell. Yup, will be ordering metal blocks from tower. I really can't wait to start building... But I am moving across the country in a few months. So I do not have the time to do it!
