Got my 450SE V2 swapped over to the DX7 today (piece of cake.. 15 mins at the most with almost NO changes required) but have a wag with the tail.
Poked around through a bunch of threads and have a few questions re: gain. (I know, DL Jermo's video but at 64M it's gonna take all day here at work - I'll nab it later tonight when I get home)
I changed the [INPUT SELECT] to AUX2 = INH and GEAR = GYRO and can access the [GYRO SENS] menu. I've got it set to AUTO and have all 3 modes turned "on" but the tail wags like crazy regardless of what I set the gains to.
The manual says the flight modes use a "pre-determined compensation rate" for each flight mode. OK, fine. Where do I set those modes?
Other than the wag, the heli flies great - just like it did on my 9C...

try starting at 72 in "0"as well as 72 in "1"
The three modes are set to either "1" or "0"
Therefore, it will always stay in HH mode.
I am about 99% sure that the gear awitch will become inop when setting the gear switch to gyro.
If you want to the other number for mormal mode would be about 29.

I don't use the gyro menu with the DX7 but that's how you would set it up.
You've got two gyro sense rates in the [GYRO SENSE] menu.
RATE:
0: 75%
1: 70%
1 and 0 are the indexes you use under F.MODE e.g.:
NORM: 0
STNT: 1
HOLD: 0
This would give you 75% gain for HOLD and NORM mode and 70% for ST-1 and ST-2.
50% is neutral position so 70% is something above neutral whereas for example 30% is beneath neutral. But: 70% isn't 20% gain above neutral and you've got to watch Jermo's video if you are interested in the real values.
After you've set those values you can check the GEAR channel's behavior in the MONITOR menu when you flip the flight mode switch.
I hope that was all correct.

Yeah, I got that worked out, but it seems that regardless of what I set the Rate numbers to, the tail wags like crazy. It was rock solid when driven by my 9C...

are u sure that when u decrease the gyro sense from ~72 setting that it is actually being adjusted?
Is the 401 set to zero?
If u lower the setting below ~30 will the gyro go into normal mode?
Did you try adjusting the gyro with the gear set to gear just to se if it's adjusting gain?

Yeah, gyro goes in and out of HH mode just fine.. Pretty sure gain is working 'cuz if I change the rate value to anything less than 50, the gyro drops out of HH mode and then back in as I up the value.
Not so sure it's the gyro now. It seems as if the motor is somehow "pulsing" - almost like a low voltage cutoff on the ESC. I didn't notice it before because of the noise in the alley in back of work where I was testing this, but it's pretty apparent in the back yard.
Gonna do a full discharge/charge cycle on a pack and try again, hopefully before it gets dark.

Welp, definitely not a gyro issue. The motor is definitely cutting in and out. kgfly suggested it might be an overloaded BEC causing the Rx to "brown out". I tried his suggestion of powering up in throttle hold and exercising all the servos to see if the Rx light would flicker but the thing spooled up on me and I took a tailrotor to the thumb. ZERO response to the radio for a good ten seconds. Good thing I've got -5 degrees set in normal mode or it would have left the table.
The heli is grounded until I pull this 2.4g crap out and put back my reliable old 72MHz stuff or figure out WTF is going on. Thus far my opinion on this DX7 is unairable in this forum.

Sounds like a malfunction of your AR6100 or maybe the BEC. But I would give it another try with the motor unplugged. Check the throttle position in all the flight modes and throttle hold on and off. You could monitor the position in the [MONITOR] menu. Afterwards you could try the same procedure with the connected motor without pinion. Just to be sure it corresponds to the throttle positions of the transmitter.
I don't know why your heli accidentally spooled up but it happened to me during a range check. It was my fault because I had the throttle at full position when I bound the receiver to the transmitter.

Hold and throttle curves are ok. I know hold works 'cuz I hover auto'd all the landings on my test hops.
Waiting for this Rx pack to charge so I can see if it's the BEC or the Rx. Definitely unplugging the motor this time around and am going to rebind again.

OK, tore the whole thing apart and checked solder joints, servo wires etc.. Put it all back together sans motor, rebound it then exercised all the servos with a fresh pack connected. No blinking of the Rx light. Same with the Rx pack. Hooked the motor back up, set the throttle endpoints to 150/150 and reprogrammed the ESC. Just flew around the back yard for 6 mins with nary a glitch.. HS is definitely up from before so I'm thinking the ESC lost it's programming from the initial swapover, or I had a brain fart and set it up wrong and the lower HS meant the TR didn't have enough "oomph" to drive the tail around.
Still have a tiny bit of tail wag and the tail kicks out to the right on full pitch climbout, but comes back almost immediately. Got a bit of a bounce so I think I need to dial in a little delay.. For giggles, I'm gonna set the gyro up again and try the gear endpoints for gain instead of using the gyro fucntion.
