Default Servo Tester Voltage?

I picked up a servo tester believing it would be a handy device to have. I have wanted to use it on several occasions already, but -- contrary to my expectations -- it requires a 3-wire power input which I do not have.

It occurred to me that the BNIP 7.4v receiver battery that I have on the way will have the right connector, but aren't I taking a bit of a chance feeding 8 -ish volts straight into the servo?!

UNLESS...

I wonder if the tester unit has a step-down circuit inside to lower the delivered voltage to 5.5 or so(?)

Can someone comment, please?

Unlikely, i wouldnt use it like that with none HV servos. But it should be pretty easy to test, plug in lipo and test output voltage (assuming tester itself can handle 8+V).

Do you have an old ESC with build in BEC lying around? That plus lipo would likely work.

No - I have nothing like that. I didn't think it'd be this complicated!

Any other ideas, please?

Cheapest way is probably to get a 4.8V NiXX RX pack and use that, or even one of those 4x AA holders and wire your own servo plug to it.

If I insert a 3.5A/5.5 BEC between a LiPo and the servo tester it will step down the voltage from the battery to 5.5V, right? So that would work wouldn't it?!

Thanks! Apparently a SportBEC is under-powered (or under-rated) for installation into my 450 & my 550...so this will give it a job until I decide whether to pop it into my 250!

A BEC in a 250? no need for anything like that, the 2-3A linear BEC in any small ESC will work fine for a heli that small. Waste of space/weight.

Thanks! I am still climbing the learning curve. But I'll get there!
