Somewhere I heard mention of an updated guide to programming the Gaui ESC which is online somewhere.

Where can I find this?

Also, is it OK to do the ESC programming without the motor connected ?

Thanks,
-S

I beleive it's in the instuction manual on the Gaui website.
http://www.gaui.com.tw/en/ep550.htm

Somewhere near the end. Not sure if this is correct though, since some versions have been circling around. But then you might expect the manufacturer to carry the most recent version in his website.

Thanks for that, I downloaded it and ran through the steps. It's prob the same as the user manual I got with it but might as well make sure it's the latest thing.

I was a bit worried about starting the ESC with the transmitter at full throttle but obviously that tells it to go into programming mode. 'Quite clever little things these ESCs.

I believe this is the correct version of the manual

Hi all - I am just finishing my set up ! plugged ESC in and absolutley DEAD!
Any one have such an experience. There was a slight spark as we connected the Deans plugs but then no beeps or ... smoke for that matter!
There will obviously be a surge at connection but I would assume that the ESC can handle this.
Thanks W

i think you'll always get a spark when you plug in the battery to the ESC.
the input capacitor on the ESC behaves like a very low resistance (short) for a very short time so you get an initial surge of current until the cap gets charged.

Hi,

I think i had something simular like that the first time. But that was because of throttle calibration.
I guess you checked that already?
I disconnected the motor pinion from the gear to be sure it wouldnt spool up with the blades mounted...checked the throttle setting in the tx 0 - 100%. switch on the tx, put the stick at full throttle plug the power to the ESC, wait for beeps, throttle stick in low position wait for 3 beeps...done
(ofcourse you can check the other settings as well after that)

Thanks DEWorley that makes sense !
Dutch - we were in the initial calibration step ? Who knows!
This ESC didn't even beep , connected and disconnected from motor -
Currently waiting for replacement ESC - will see!

Dutch also got the HDX450- nice !

Hi,

I actually meant disconnecting the pinion from the drive gear, not the wires to the motor.
Anyway you are getting a replacement i see :D

HDX450 is fun. Still fly it a lot
