David (or anyone),
I am about to start rebuilding an old SE and I want to use one of the new gearboxes, will the 123-05 pitch control kit work with the new box?
Also I have been getting my parts list together and I don't find the 0540-1 Mainshaft thrust bearings anywhere, either on Ricks site or the Min-Air site they are out of stock, is there a new part# for this bearing?

The Tempest tail slider assembly works just fine with the new box. Make sure you order the FAI box and use the t/r bellcrank mount that comes with the tail box kit. If you elect to use the 3D box with the tail rotor on the other side, then order the pitch arm that comes with the FAI tail box and substitute that one for the one that comes with the 3D box.

The mainshaft thrust bearings are no longer available. You can source them from Boca or similar source or add a second 0183/0184 bearing into the block to create a double BB block like the Extreme or Tempest use.

Remember to order a new t/r rod since the new box positions the t/r bellcrank ball about 10mm further back on the model.

Anthony,
If you want the tail rotor on the left side as it is now with the SE. You will need to order the 3D gear box ( left side). But you will need to order also 123-85 Bell crank support for FAI box if your going to use the CNC slider.
The CNC pitch slider that is stock on the SE will work with 123-85 arm. You have to use some washers to shim the difference. If your going to get the Tempest style FAI pitch slider assembly, it works fine with 123-85.

If you want the tail rotor on the right side, then order the FAI gear box and you will not have to order any extra parts. As Ben also mentioned, you will need to build a pushrod that is 10 to 12 mm longer to use with the open style box.

:? To many part #'s I got a list now thats growing out of control, ok now let me ask, what difference does it make which side the rotor is on? I mean would someone like me really notice a difference?

Oh and this gearbox isn't going the 90 ship I plan on using it on my 60 and using the CNC box thats on the 60 on the 90.

Personally I can't tell a difference it which side the tail rotor is on.

The question is where you want to use the CNC pitch slider on the tail .

123-75 3D tail box. This is for the left side of model. The arm that comes with this tail box is for the plastic bell crank and pitch slider.

123-74 FAI Tail box. This is for the right side of model. The arm that comes with this tail box is for the Tempest FAI pitch slider. The old style gold CNC pitch slider will work. Will need to shim it with a washer on top and bottom on the arm.

123-85 Arm for CNC pitch slider. If you get the 3D box and want to run a CNC pitch slider you will need this arm also.

I had two XL Pro IIKs, one with the TR on the right and one with the TR on the left. Cliff Hiatt was telling me the on on the right side would fly better overall but initially I could not tell them apart. After a little while of getting the models dialed in to where they felt and flew the same, I began to see a little difference, not huge but definitely there. The model with the TR on the right tracked a little better through rolling maneuvers and was more predictable in high collective applications. Any corrections I had to make were smaller and less touchy. Five years ago, I would not have known the difference and even now the difference is small enough not to even worry about it for most applications.

Ok I think I got ya now, I need to order the 123-75 the 123-85 and the 123-05 pitch slider and then switch out the pivot arm that comes with the slider kit for the 123-85,

Swap out the pivot arm as noted and all will be just fine. :D
