I had a slightly damaged lipo from my last crash so I decided to do a little test on one of my storage boxes. (15 euro cash box) I was a bit worried that the extreme heat from a lipo fire would burn a hole straight through the metal but it held up perfectly.
Anyway here is a vid of the test I did.

Thanks for the safety video - I was just looking for how to properly dispose of my bad lipos!

Does make me feel real comfortable that my charge routine includes a lipo sack inside an ammo can. A serious house fire is one of those things I really don't care to have to deal with...

What capacity battery was that and how much charge did it have?
Good info, thanks for the vid!

It was a 2100mah 3 cell lipo with a full balanced charge. The battery was pretty new with only about 15 cycles on it. One of the outer cells was slightly damaged in a crash.

Does anybody know what the toxicity level of LiPo smoke is? I know that LiPo sacks are meant to contain fire, but not smoke. While I'd be pretty happy that it might prevent my house from going up in flames. I'm concerned that the smoke released may be toxic to me and my family. I wish I had a safe place to charge and store outside the house.

Wow... you should make a post or a copy of this post in the safety forum and this is good info to share and shows people what a lipo can do if improperly treated!

Dang...this makes me want to start charging in a box or sack of some sort instead of my carpeted floor like I have been doing...heh.

I have a cash box where I store my batts, but after watching the video, makes me want to charge batts inside the cash box too.

The question is, I noticed on the video, that the cash is closed and locked to contain the flames, how does one lock the box if there are charging leads, and balancer connected to the battery? Pictures would be nice :D

I bent the side of the box with a pair of pliers just enough to let the cables through without pinching them.

Il post some pics this evening.

I'am suprised, how fast the lipo begins to burn.

Here in germany, a room was burning down by a lipo. I think there were a lot of scale-models in there.
It was a 2s 2100mAh lipo which was charged by an orbit charger an balanced. He went out for 30 minutes. In the room were modells of the last 30 Years... the owner was suprised that this was gonna happend...
