View Full Version : Do you ever loc-tite a bearing? Seeing wear on main shaft..

On both my c30s and c5 I've noticed wearing (called gauling?) where the bearings contact the main and feathering shafts. I imagine that loc-tite would help but would make it hard to disassemble and maintain. It would be nice if there were a weaker loc-tite than the blue...

Any thoughts?

I have used Red to loctite bearings to shafts. Would not even think about using blue. Yes if you have a wear mark on the shaft from the bearing. I would loctite the bearing to the shaft. As for disassemly, just a little heat is required to release the loctite. I would suggest doing the mainshaft as for the speed it is spinning, As for the feathering spindle( blade axle). Sound like the material it is made of is just soft. The bearings are not spinning on the blade axle.

Thanks for the info! How do you heat the shaft? I've used a small butane torch once the assembly is out of the heli, but I would like to get the shaft out without disassembling the frame...

I have used the "loctite 243" in my heli. easy to disassemble but holds upp very good.
for the plastic details i used "loctite 406",a CA glue that seems to work very well.

With the loctite 243, don't you need to heat the part? Is it possible to heat the main shaft and remove it without dissassembling the frame? It seems that if I loctite the bearing on the main shaft on either a caliber 30 or 5 that I would need to heat up the shaft in order to pull it out and check for straightness after an "unplanned" maneuver. I was thinking of trying a soldering iron on the shaft as close to the bearing as I could get...

How do you apply the loctite? Do you put a drop on the shaft and move it into place or use just a tiny amount?

Sorry for all the ?'s but I'm thinking of trying this this weekend...
