I'm currently flying my E325 mini titan with a JR G170 gyro, how much difference would it make upgrading to a better more expensive gyro?

Hi Pierredef,
how do you find the G170?
Ive just finished building my E325 with a G170 and am giving it its solo flight this weekend. any tips on it? where have you installed it on your E325? do you have any pic of you installation that you could share/ post?
I was going to go with the G490 as it was 1/2 price here at the moment but still didn't have enough coin for it so I'm going to use the G170 until i have the $$$ to invest in a GY401 and tail servo.

I've asked a lot of experienced pilots what they think of the G170, the general reply seems to be that its a good gyro and works great on electric helis like the E325, its only when you're flying hard 3D that the difference becomes apparent. I however can't compare it to other gyro's because this is my first heli, I've only been flying airplanes before my E325, but it seems to work great.
What is the length of your tail servo arm,did you make it 10.5mm like they say in the manual? When I had it on 10.5mm my servo travel was only something like 35%, then I read in a forum that someone had a tail wobble problem and fixed it by reducing the servo arm length to 5mm. Then I reduced mine to 7mm and then later to 4.5mm, now I have 75% servo travel and it seems to work great, I didn't have problems with it on 10.5mm though I just think its more stable when its less.
There is no servo reverse on the gyro and I needed to reverse it, so what I had to do according to the manual is to mount it upside down, works perfect just doesn't look very nice :( Can't show you a pic now, my usb cable seems to be missing. I mounted it on the side above the receiver with double sided tape.
I set my gyro gain on a switch between 80% and 100% and I am really struggling to find the difference? I have even tried indoors over and over. So I don't know yet what is a good value for normal flying and what for 3D flying. I think i'm going to set it to 90% for normal flying.
The mini titan is an excelent heli once you have it set up correctly, much better than the trex and cheaper, it flies better with its plastic parts than the trex does with metal parts, I know this because I allowed other pilots to try my heli
Anyway let me know how you find the gyro and what values work better for you

thanks for the info mate,
ill put my first flight on you tube for a laugh. i haven't set the gain as yet (that's a tonight job) but as soon as this is done ill pass on any info. Ive mounted mine on the receiver tray as Ive put the receiver in the cavity to give it some protection in the event of pilot failure :? once its ready for flight ill post a pic or two of it for comparison.
from what Ive read as well and been told the G170 is a good beginners gyro, cant wait to get it in the air for its first solo. :D :D

I have changed my settings again, when you start flying it please let me know of the following so I can compare settings(Or anyone else with mini titan & rate gyro) ...
1) What length from servo center to link ball & how much % of servo travel you use (on rudder)
2) Throttle & pitch curve and revo mix you use for normal or stunt mode
3) Gyro gain for normal or stunt mode
Mine is currently the following, I have 0 pitch at mid stick...
Ball is 7.5mm from servo center with 65% of servo travel. Servo arm is at 90degrees when hovering, so at mid stick at 0 pitch it is not completely at 90degrees.
Normal mode
---------------
Pitch curve: 40 - 45 - 50 - 75 - 100
Throttle curve: 0 - 45 - 68 - 88 - 100
Revo mix only mid stick upwards: Right 60%
Revo mix from mid stick down: 0%
Stunt mode
-------------
Pitch curve: 0 - 25 - 50 - 75 - 100
Throttle curve: 100 - 90 - 70 - 90 - 100
Revo mix from mid stick up: Right 57%
Revo mix from mid stick down: Right 57%
These settings set the servo arm at 90degrees when hovering normally or upside down, and when the trims are in for all modes(normal, stunt & hold) things seem to in proportion to each other and in good balance :)
Undecided on gyro gain, still trying different ones :dontknow
Please post yours
