Hi all!

I was running my third tank per the break in procedure outlined in the manual, in a low hover when the engine just stopped. Fortunately, there was no breakage. It landed fairly soft. I took it into my shop and it fired right back up. But, it dies when I remove the glow plug igniter even after I let it run for a while.

I'm hoping that I didn't put a hole in the piston. Low compression is the only explanation I can come up with. Any other ideas?

What gives?

BTW, what an impressive bird!

First thought bad glow plug - try a change. Second thought idle mixture screw too rich - if you haven't adjusted it from out the box try tweaking it a tad clockwise ie about 17 mins past the hour in a manner of speaking :)

It's gonna light with the glow igniter attached if the engine is running that way. That doesn't mean the plug isn't bad, however. Try a new plug, it doesn't sound like a blown piston to me. Easy enough to remove the head and check though, if nothing else, for peace of mind.

Where is your main needle?

If you didnt take apart the engine there may have been some debris, that will kill a plug. So will RTV if you felt the need to slather it on your muffler connection.

I had a similar thing recently with my OS 32 and no 8 plug.
Turned out that even though the glow plug lit the coil in the plug was slightly off shape with a very small dark spot on it.
Changed the plug and the engine started straight away :(
