View Full Version : G3 Locks up my computer

Any suggestions?

My system: Pent. 4/ 3.0, 512 RAM, Radeon 9200 128 RAM

When running the helicopters the canopy is there and then sometimes all you can see is the internal frame of the heli. Also the graphics seem very choppy.

The sim will work for awhile and then completely lock up the computer. It requires a power button shutdown. I can't even use Ctl+Alt+Del to get to the task manager.

My system is less than a year old.

Do I need more RAM to run G3 or more video RAM? Or is the video card acting up?

Thanks for the input.

Jeff

do you have the latest radeon drivers? are you running their new (and in my opinion craptacular) catalyst control center or just the drivers by their lonesome (I had all kinds of crashing problems (not G3, haven't found fundage for it yet) with their control center app, none with the "drivers only" download)

http://ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=10&submit.y=12&submit=GO%21

(the one I use is the smaller download)

I offered this as I had the same problem when Rome Total War came out, new drivers fixed it for me.

If this doesn't work, can you give us a list of the processes running on your computer before you open up G3?

Greg,

Thanks that solved most of the problem. Now I can see the canopy throughout a flight session.

The scenery still seems ratchedy. It's really annoying.

I must say though that the physics are excellent to say the least.

Thanks,

Jeff

go into you g3 settings menu, graphics, and turn all the choices to low quality.

this will improve alot...

you can also choose to not show.... trees, objects, textures, particles.... ect....

taylor to you liking and frame rate. check frame rate by turning on the nav-guide (shortcut key 1,2 or 3 - cant remember which one)

Shortcut key #1 for nav guides.

Jeff,

Will you still have fairly good graphics if you turn them to low quaility?

Thanks,

Jeff

I think so... really cant even tell the difference

I found most of the problem is that I usually fly G2 at a field where there are no trees or very few trees. I could care less about the graphics, just want to fly.

This thing flys awesome. I can do a lot maneuvers that I couldn't do on G2.

Do your helis really fly as well as the G3 sim? It's a bit unrealistic as far as how fast it accelerates, it's wicked fast.

But if your helis fly as well as this sim then I'm back to setting up again. :D

Thanks for the help.

You say that the helis on G3 accelerate too fast....are you talking vertical punchout or forward acceleration?...i dont have G3 YET but if its model parameters are like G2 you can go to edit model....then go to fuselage and adjust your front and side drag coefficient to slow it down a bit......increase these numbers and it adds drag to the heli which in turn slows it down......damn i gotta get G3

They accelerate both vertical and forward. I know about the editing, I don't want to spend my time making computer models when I can be flying them outside.

I'm using someone else's model they posted here.

I do want to make the model larger. How do you do that?

Go to the Aircraft | Edit <Aircraft> menu which will bring up the Aircraft Editor. Select the aircraft name in the tree view on the left. On the right you should see a Graphical Scale Entry. Increase the size of the model by increasing this value.
