can someone please tell me if the older Century 600 (lightning) brushless motor on a 14t pinion with a 5 cell lipo will be ok to use with the century 55/70 amp esc? Im thinking of getting the new 550ep carbon and i have this motor and a 55/70 esc that i dont use. Would 520mm blades with the 55/70 and century lightning 600 (714 Kv) on 14t fly with a 5 cell? Or am i loading the battery up too much or will the amps be too high? Thanks for the help in advance

Hey,
Ideally the 600 Outrunner isn't designed to run on less than 6s due to it's low Kv rating and design, doing so I think will cause the ESC to run hotter as the current draw will be higher. Also the motor will not be running very efficiently.
The pinion will depend a lot on the gearing of the model it is going into, on my Swift I ran this motor on 6s with a 14T pinion which gave me a head speed just under 2100 rpm.
If you were running an 80amp+ ESC I'd say give it a go but as the one you have is less I'd be inclined to say dont try it incase.
What motor Kv rating is recommended for the 550ep just as a matter of interest?

so will the 55/70 amp esc handle 6s with the outrunner 600 lightning on 14t? THe new 550ep carbon calls for 900-1200kv motors so the 600 + is the motor they are trying to push with this one.

Hey,
Yeah 6s would be ok I think as the current draw would be less than say a 4 or 5s setup. At present I am running a CC60 with 6s and the 600+, having only just removed the 600 I used up till two weeks ago.
What I would do is to fit the 14T first, fly the machine and keep and eye on battery, ESC & motor temperatures during the flight. Then if all is well and not to hot try going up to a 15T pinion to compensate for the lower than recommended Kv rating. An inflight watt meter would be good to have right now if you could borrow one, but if not no matter.
Hopefully it may go well for you and this motor will power the model nicely.
