I'm a newbie with helis, currently hovering cp2 left, right, tail and nose in. Ive decided to go with a 550 as it sounds like the deal of the year on potentially a great heli. I would like some veteran suggestions on which to get, the basic kit and get the motor, esc, bec separately (which ones?)or the kit with the Gaui motor, esc, and bec remembering my skill level at this point. Also which lipo packs for the longest hovering and slow circuits. I have already purchased a DX7. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You will get the info on where to get the basic kit from others, but as far as the battery's go, i would recommend Flight power F3A 5350mAh pack. It's only 5S, but it's still enough to get you through the basic maneuvers (loops, flips, rolls etc, inverted hover...). It has very good price/flight time ratio.
On stock GAUI motor it gives me 14 minutes of flight time until it is 80% drained.
I would recommend ESC separately, motor: Z-power 30A which, from my source of information, uses less amps for the same work as the GAUI or Z20 for that matter.
I use standard Align 3A BEC and works fine with 4 digital futaba servos.
