after flying my razor for a while and being pretty disappointed with the power provided by the hacker a50-14 motor i decided to strap it to the bench, hook up the data logger and try some different ratios and pitch settings. well testing confirmed it doesnt live up to my expectations. it will barely pull 2150 hs at hover pitch with the recomended 8.72 ratio and any significant pitch (10deg) will pull 2-300 hs out of it. the 9.6 ratio is alittle better with a hover hs of 2050. what motor should i try next to get the hs and power up? and can i expect a signifigant increase in performance from this motor? i would like to stay with my 10s and jazz esc set up. thanks

Call Tim at M.A. and tell him you want the Steve Grohman pulley.
Seriously, we had the same thing. After talking to Tim we decided to try a pulley 2 teeth smaller. Our performance is way better. Our temps are lower. After 4-4.5 min of 3D, the motor is around 170 deg. With your ratio we saw 200 +.
Here are a couple of links to videos.

We had your same set up. All we did was change the 32t gear to a 30t. We have an 8.18 ratio. We put the throttle curve to 87%. We have 2230 hs.
Did you check out the vids?

BB,

Do a few searches and I'm sure you can find a better motor. Anything running +170 deg is too hot and too inefficient imop.

The new Neu heli motors are probably worth looking at.

Tom, the general consensous among the team guys i consulted with is either the neu 1515 on 10s or 1521 on 12 s is the way to go.
PG, i tried the 8.18 and did see a increase in performance but the motor was 190 after 4 minutes putting back 75% into my 3850's. esc was 130 and so was the batts. that was flying in 95deg weather. amps would peak at 70 with the 8.72 and though i didnt put the logger on it for the 8.18 ill bet its well over 70.if the motor wasnt so hot id probably fly it this way for awhile.
nice flying by the youngster

Why is the 1521 better on 12s? What GR with the 1521 on 12s? Is 18.46 still the choice for 1515/2y on 10s?
