Hi all Helifreaks !

Im very new to all this heli stuff, been thinking about helis since... allways it seams, atleast way back in the early 90's i think or before that... looking at them and dreaming of having one myself.

Now i have just bought two new big electric helis, one that is trimmed and ready for a testflight, the other bigger is going to be finaladjusted and getting gyro and rx and lipos for, but as i said the smaller one that i bought a few weeks before the other one is all set.... have already just kinda hovered with it, just got the feel a littlebit of how it felt.

Now i have dicided before i go any further i will practise in a good sim to get all the basic's down 100%, so it feel totally natural and no thinking to move the sticks..... didnt think i would ever get this down, but second day (total around 2hours sim time) i really start to get the right feelings for it and suprice myself with the reactions my fingers do in different situations... very nice, i like :D

I tried fms and that was ok, but it didnt have any feeling in it. Sure it was a god sim to get the basic's down and all, but the background was nasty to look at... some helis was quite good looking though. It was a god sim but without any real feeling of a real rc heli in it at all, more kidstuff feeling to me anyways.
Then i just tried a few others... clearview was really nice looking and felt very good, and as i said looked real good both background and heli's, and for the price it's just outstanding.
Have seen real flight g3,5 and that looks nice, and has so much help inside for learning that it feels like the ultimate sim, mostly for all the helping talk tracks etc.. looks very good and there are a great selection of helis for it.
I have also seen reflex xtr, wooow that looks awsome incredible to me, both helis and backgrounds looks best i seen on a rc sim, but it does not seam to have as much help etc as in real flight g3,5.
I am using right now aerofly pro deluxe and that feels real good to fly, looks real nice most of the time, but there are not any big selection of helis...... but enough maybe, it's just a good training we are after right  atleast before we are 3d qualified, then we may want specific helis and be able to really finetune them etc.

There is sim's with their own tx, and that means practise without charging it all the time.
There are sim's that you can hook up your real tx with, and that is great for the more realistic feeling and settings etc.

I feel a littlebit like, sims with their own basic tx would be less problems with compability and no charging batt's and longer practise time.

My question is, should i get rid of my aerofly sim and get another, and if so what.. and why ??
Im learning the basics right now, have been doing it for only two days, but it feels that im moving ahead quite fast... a few crashes have i made, so im glad i decided to continue with the sim until i feel that im ready for the real thing again :thumbs-up2:

I have searched around, but i can't really get to that point where i feel THIS is a sim i should buy instead of what i have now. A sim that will best help me into flying a heli and feeling relaxed when doing it.

Any advice help would be great

I fly Phoenix sim and it is great. New and improved version is due out mid July. If you are not in a rush I would advise you to hold out a couple of weeks and stalk the Phoenix Sim forum.

Phoenix is fine as it is, and updates are free.

But Real Flight 3.5, XTR, FSOne, and Phoenix are all great. It is just that Phoenix flight model seems to be a bit better. And 1.04 will tweak that to be even better.

As I understand it .....as a Phoenix-sim owner you will be able to download it for free. You can currently download new models and fields for free as they become available.

First of, thanks for all the advice so far. It sure sound interresting that Reflex xtr... but as i said, i heard good things about G3 to... and starting to hear real good things about phoenix. It's hard to choose what maybe feels best for me :?
There is absolutly nothing wrong with my aerofly pro deluxe, just that im wondering if i should change it for something else, as there isnt really any comfortable background i have seen so far (i know rc-sim.de), and there isnt much choice in guided training etc, but the realism are very good what i noticed anyways.
Something dont feel right about the view in this aerofly sim, the way it works... dont feel right somehow... almost thought that the view was working better in clearview and what i have seen in phoenix and reflex xtr, cant say much about G3 as i felt it to be similar to my aerofly in how the view works.

1. Most Important ! It must be as realistic as possible to the rc heli's (100% focus on the helis, and 0% on the planes) The realism may NOT be affected at all by graphic's etc (it may use as much pc power it want's, no problem)

2. To have real good made helis to download or buy, possibility to adjust them is very much wanted

3. A guide or some sort of practice for a beginner at least would be very nice, some sort of follow my instructions type of things, and when slobby or not as good get info about that from instructor.

4. Tracks with obsticles etc later on to practice from exact landings to the most advanced 3D.

5. possibility to change wind, and failure on heli etc would be nice later on, but not a must have thing.

Does anyone have any good links to videos about the first step for a newbie ?? like hover in all directions and 8's and so on ? btw i have already seen bob's real flight video about this, and his videos are as always a fantastic help, easy to understand and with some real good hint's and advice
I was thinking if there was some in real life video about this with some talktrough.

Im allmost hovering now 100% in all directions (totally easy perfect with tail in now... pretty good at nose in and sides, and can allmost do a figure 8... a little wide though, but im getting there (i guess i have been at it for about 5-6hours total so far, It's hard, sometimes i get "brainpause, blank, freeze" feels frustrating and embarasing, but very exciting and fun at the same time seeing that i get better at flying). I relax with some friflying nice inverted hovering and a few tictoc etc, mostly they go without crash, but im not in any way real good at them  I suprice myself from time to time with a incredible perfect 3D stunt.... with a "how the heck did i do that" feeling after

I have Phoenix sim and I love it (especially the FREE updates) I had FSone and personally I thought it was more like a video game and less like a sim.

Automan-Hello

I fly Realflight g3.5. www.toyhaus.com ,$199.99 w/ flight pack 1 free and free updates and I paid no shipping here in the USA. Lots of helis to fly and more than enough planes. Love flying a 55" blade heli in an indoor basketball gymnasium. Might get booted out for real, but in the sim it's funny how little distance you can fly inside b4 hitting the wall or going for a slamdunk with an AXE EZ. No rim! All net!!

I have real flight G2. Is that still ok to learn on? I picked it up used for 60 bucks...just couldnt justify spending 199 on a program that to me just seemed to have more needless bells and whistles ( aircraft type and airports) or am i totally wrong about this?

Hey Steelhauler-

Your join date is actually tomorrow here.

I'm impressed with RealFlight 3.5, so I'm sure G2 is probably adequate to get the basic movements to help learn flying. Main thing is getting experience knowing when a heli is heading for trouble so you can correct it in time IMHO.

G3.5 does have some spectacular heli crashes though. I can't say about G2 since I've never seen it. Check this out : http://www.gpsoftware.com/realflightg2.htm

Have fun..... :fly :fly :fly :fly

I think i will keep this on ice for atleast a few weeks, as it feels pretty hard to choose one of those :?

Im using the aerofly pro deluxe for now.... wonder why i dont hear that much about it, as i feel it to have a really good engine.. very realistic to real life, the graphics are nice.. but not as nice as reflex or phoenix.
