I bought and assembled my hawk about 3 years ago... flew it once, and then... long story short, had a kid... put the heli in the basement.
Its got an os engine, gy401, fms autopilot, futaba gyros(I think just 3303s)
Is this heli worth resurrecting? are parts available? I flew really nice, and I've been flying micros, and other helis lately... but all EP.... I would like to get a bigger heli in the air.... and this is way cheaper than a trex-600.. or even a century swift... its pretty much free cause I already have it.
Pretty much looks like the hawk pro on the century website.
A keeper?

If it flies well, you like it, and it fits the budget, why switch? Fly the heck out of it, upgrade later if you feel like it.

you know I'm just loving the whole EP thing, gas is a messy hassle.
It does fly really nice though... I hooked it up to my new remote, set the swash to the correct mode... and everything was already trimmed out perfectly.... I really set this thing up right.
I'm going to go ever everything..... but this baby used to fly soooo nice... compared to my micros.

I just moved AWAY from EP to nitro (Building a Hawk Pro now) because I wanted a Logo and when it was done, found out that the NiHM's I was planning to use would not get it off the ground and that I needed a $350 LiPo... for 4 minutes of flight. So... it's up for sale now and has not even flown, just hovered once while trying to get that NiHM to work.
My point here is, don't forget about the BATTERY cost... easily a $1000 for 3 batteries so you can enjoy the heli. I know fuel is expensive too, but I'd rather spend a little here and there than throw $1000 down now and if you toast the pack in a crash, there goes $350
If you have no prob spending the cash, go'fer it. Electrics are nice for sure. Oh and don't forget about the charger capable of charging those large LiPo's too.

yeah thats kinda keeping me from the 600.
I was really more wondering if this heli was worth flying... does it need to be upgraded to be more current, or is it just totally obsolete?

I think it would be fine. I'd keep it if I were you. Next year build a Raptor 50

Why not convert it to electric. My Hawk Pro is now an eHawk. I use inexpensive eMoli cells to power it for 8 ~ 9 minutes depending on the headspeed.
There's lots of information on converting a Hawk Pro on rcgroups.com.

yeh one 10s pack of A123 cells would be great in a hawk 30.Thats what I'll use in my shuttle 30. ten cells would cost ya 100$ on ebay.

It will be fine - fly it until you want something bigger - then get the Raven 50 (more like a pocket 60 then a stretched 30).
If you want a great electric go for their Swift.

600!!
My friend just built one and the quality was above and beyond man. I don't think they are even manufactured here on earth :)

The 600 requires much larger battery packs than a Swift. Swift=4-6S,The 600=8-10S packs. It will fly on 6S, but kills packs pretty fast. it is a heavy helicopter.

:) 2 minutes on a Logo is like 20 minutes on a Swift.
(someone told me that a while back)
